Dramatic title chases continue in late July at South Boston Speedway
Jul 16, 2008 - updated Jul 16th, 2008 2:24pm
Web posted by Tim Chandler

South Boston, VA. --

South Boston Speedway will be idle this weekend and perhaps that is a good thing. The fans and drivers probably need a chance to catch their breath and settle in for what promises to be a dramatic close to the 2008 season at America's Hometown Track.

The race for the NASCAR Whelen All American Series crowns in both the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division and the Limited Sportsman Division remain unbelievably close as the racing schedule heads into late July at the four-tenths mile asphalt oval.

Both divisions will be in action and highlighting the Southside Virginia Community College 150 when racing actions returns to South Boston Speedway on Saturday, July 26. The first race of the night will get the green flag at 7 p.m.

The drivers in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division will be in action for 150 laps. Following last weekend's twin 75-lap races for the division, Wayne Ramsey continues to lead the title chase, but only by 13 points over Justin Johnson.

Ramsey had finishes of first and second last weekend, while Johnson claimed a victory and a third-place finish.

Dude Gibbs, Deac McCaskill, and Jonathan Bailey round out the top five drivers in the chase for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car championship in 2008.

The point separation in the Limited Sportsman Division heading into the July 26 50-lap event is a mere three points. Lee Pulliam, a four-time winner in 2008, leads two-time defending division champion Bruce Anderson by the narrow margin. Anderson finished first last weekend for his third win of the season, while Pulliam rolled home in second.

Other races set for July 26 include twin events for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and action for the Yellow Book USA Southern Vintage Modifieds and the INEX Legends Series.

Joe Allred sits atop the Pure Stock standings with a 31-point cushion over Courtney Crosby. Justin Tucker, Mike Jones, and Quain Moore round out the top five drivers in the Budweiser Pure Stock point standings.

Pit gates will open Saturday, July 26 at 1 p.m. with practice for all divisions beginning at 2:15 p.m. and continuing through 3:45 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get cranked up at 5:15 p.m.

Tickets are priced at $10 for adults. Youth, ages 7-12, will be admitted for $5 and children, ages 6 and under, will be admitted free. All youth must be accompanied by a paying adult to receive discounted admission.
