NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at Langley Speedway
Tuesday, July 1, 2008
The longest Grand Stock event of the season, the McDonald's 75, plus five more feature contests and a fabulous fireworks display are on tap for Thursday, July 3, as Langley Speedway gets a head start on the Independence Day holiday with Miss Utility Night.
At the completion of this week's program, the track will have reached the halfway point of its 2008 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series regular season.
Thursday's lineup includes: Super 8 Motels/B&B Engines Grand Stocks (75 laps); B&C Seafood Modifieds (50 laps); Bass Pro Shops Super Streets (50 laps); E-Z Auto of Newport News UCARs (25 laps); Wolf Contractors Wolf Trucks (25 laps); and, Rhonnda Claiborne, Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts (20 laps).
The race night schedule will be compressed for the mid-week event with gates opening at 5 p.m. After a very limited series of practice rounds, pre-race activities get under way at 6:55. The Champ Karts lead off the evening's feature slate shortly after 7. There will be no time trials and the starting grids will be determined by the point standings.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. "Little Race Fans" (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Military members in uniform are also admitted free. Military members in civvies (active-duty or retired, with ID) and senior citizens (60+, with ID) receive a $2 discount off the regular adult ticket price. "Family Packs," which include two adult and two children's tickets, are $25 - a savings of $5.

Paul Lubno and Dannie Wyatt, the points leaders in the Grand Stock and Champ Kart divisions, respectively, will bring two-race winning streaks into Thursday night. By track rules, they'll both be lining up on the outside of Row 4 for their feature contests. Their prospects to score victories are quite far from bleak, however.
Working in Lubno's favor, he will have 35 extra laps to work his way to the head of the Grand Stock pack.
As for Wyatt, a peek at the tentative Champ Kart grid reveals that the drivers ahead of him in the outside line should include Spencer Saunders, Jeremy Grogg and his brother, Casey Wyatt - all frequent drafting partners of Dannie Wyatt's throughout the season.

The Speedway will hold its regular, weekly "test and tune" session on Wednesday, July 2. Gates open at 5 p.m. and practice begins at 6. Pit admission is $10. There is no charge to watch from the grandstands.

Since open practice is moving up a day, the Speedway's "Wild Wacky Wednesdays" combatants will have a night off this week. They will resume their '08 campaign on July 9 with one-on-one drags, "Time Attacks," a burnout competition and other motorized, middle-of-the-week mayhem.

Anticipation is building for the $40,000+ Hampton Heat 200 Late Model Stock Car race on Saturday, July 12.
Registration and pit parking will take place on Thursday, July 10, from 12 noon 'til 5 p.m. Practice, time trials and heat races are slated for Friday, July 11.
The lineup for July 12, includes a "Last Chance" Late Model qualifier and races for the Med Express Super Trucks, E-Z Auto of Newport News UCARs, Standard Welding Pro 6s and Rhonnda Claiborne, Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts, in addition to the 200-lap/$15,000-to-win main event.
Regular ticket prices will be in effect for the July 12 program - $10 for adults, etc. Special commemorative tickets may be purchased in advance at the Speedway office.
