Arthur, Shelton, Folmar and Adkins get wins at Virginia Motor Speedway
Jun 29, 2008 - updated Jun 30th, 2008 5:43pm
Web posted by Dave Seay

Jamaica, VA --

Living the life of a king, Walker Arthur of Forest, VA took little time to march his way to the front taking the lead from Tom Cohick of Gloucester, VA on the eighth circuit of the Victory Lap Late Model 35 lap feature on Pro-Build Night at the Races at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway. Once out front Arthur raced in a time zone all his own; taking his second victory of the 2008 season by a full straight over Cohick.

“This new motor is just awesome and I have to thank the track for preparing such a great racing surface, I have never driven a car that would hook up so well,” commented Arthur in victory lane.

In other action Craig Folmar of Phillipsburg, PA held off Daren Bolac of Moyock, NC to pick up the victory in the New Generation Racing Sprint Car 25 lap feature. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap feature Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA worked his way from his eighth place starting position taking the lead from Taylor Doggett of Ruthers Glen, VA on lap 13 to pick up his third win in as many tries. In the Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature Brett Adkins dominated in a flag to flag victory.

In the Victory Lap Late Model 35 lap feature Ben Bowie of Brandywine, MD and Ronald Cusic of California, MD led the field to green with Cusic taking control as caution fell on the field. On the second restart Bowie got a better start and led the field into turn 1 followed by Tom Cohick. On the next lap Cohick got inside Bowie as the duo raced out of turn 4 with Cohick taking over the top spot.

On lap 5 Walker Arthur took second from Stevie Long. On lap 8 Arthur powered past Cohick to take the lead. Once out front Arthur began to pull away. On lap 11 defending champion Austin Hubbard took over fourth from Anthony Kincaid.

By lap 18 Arthur was working traffic using every inch of the track to get through the slower traffic. By lap 25 Arthur had grown his lead to a full straight over Cohick who had Hubbard and Long looking to take second.

Arthur cruised on to become the divisions first multiple winner taking the victory by 1.545 seconds. Rounding out the top five were Tom Cohick, Austin Hubbard, Stevie Long and Stephen Evans. Brandon Long picked up the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Rookie of the Race Award with his ninth place finish. Sommey Lacey picked up the Pro-Build Hard Luck Award.

In the New Generation Racing Sprint Car 25 lap feature Mary Anne Williams of Chester, VA and Troy Sevrein of Ashland, VA led the field to green. As the field barreled down into turn 1 defending champion Craig Folmar rocketed to the front from his seventh place starting position to battle fort he lead. It was short lived as caution flew for a flipping J.T. Hawk of Maidens, VA in turn 1.

On the restart Folmar once again rocketed to the front leading the first circuit over Williams. Caution would come out again on lap 3 and close the field back up on his bumper for the restart.

On the restart Folmar pulled away leaving Williams and Daren Bolac to battle for second. On lap 4 Bolac tried a slide job on Williams in turn 1 but couldn’t make the pass. On the next circuit Bolac got under Williams in turn 3 to take over second.

On lap 10 the races fourth caution came out for flipping Brent Bordeaux in turn 2. On the restart Bolac tried to muscle his way under Folmar for the lead but Folmar powered his way around the outside to pull away by five car lengths.

Only a couple of cautions could slow Folmar, the final one coming on lap 23 for a spinning Tyler Shipp. After trying several times to get to the inside of Folmar on the restarts Bolac tried the outside on the final one only to have Folmar block his path. Bolac then got to the inside of Folmar as the pair headed to the white flag only to have Folmar squeeze him down out of his line into turn 1. Folmar then cruised on to take his first win of 2008.

Rounding out the top five were Daren Bolac, Tom Humphries, Matt Stambaugh and John Snead. Snead also picked up the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Rookie of the Race Award with his fifth place finish. James Hawk picked up the Pro-Build Hard Luck Award with his spectacular flip in turn 1.

In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap feature Taylor Doggett and Todd Traylor led the field to green with Doggett taking control just as caution came out for a spinning Kenny Moreland. It took another try before getting the event under way with Doggett leading the first lap followed closely by the three wide battle for second between Traylor, Bob Terry and Tim Shelton.

By the end of the first circuit Shelton had worked his way to third from his eighth place starting spot. On lap 8 Doggett began working lapped traffic giving Shelton a chance to close in for the lead. On lap 9 Shelton slipped in turn 2 allowing Traylor to get back by for second.

On lap 11 the races third caution came out for a spinning Doug Johnson. On the restart Shelton dove to the inside of Traylor heading into turn 1 to take back the second spot. Shelton then went out to catch Doggett and on lap 12 powered past Doggett to take the lead.

With Shelton in control all eyes were on Roger Jamerson as he muscled his way to the front. On lap 23 Jamerson took second from Doggett out of turn 2. The two raced into turn 3 with Doggett getting into the back of Jamerson sending him into the wall and ending his night. On the restart Traylor developed a flat rear tire allowing Jimmy Duncan and Okey Synan, Jr. to go three wide for second. Shelton went on to pick up his third win in as many tries. Rounding out the top five were Jimmy Duncan, Okey Synan, Jr., Tony Wood and Tommy Upshaw. Jimmy Duncan picked up the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Rookie of the Race Award with his second place finish. Kenny Moreland picked up the Pro-Build Hard Luck Award.

In the Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature Kevin Fletcher and Raymond Harper led the field to green. Brett Adkins powered around the duo to take over the top spot. Once out front Adkins pulled away from the rest of the field, leaving everyone to battle for second on back.

On lap 10 the races first caution came out for a spinning Danny Martin and Tyler LaRoque. Also caught up in the mess was second place Bob Terry, the damage sustained by his car would eventually send him to the infield with a DNF.

On the restart Adkins again jumped out to a huge lead, this time Stephen Childress tried keeping pace. On lap 16 Marty Coltrain worked inside current point leader Wayne Suite for fifth. Adkins had to endure two more cautions before picking up his third win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Stephen Childress, Wesley Givens, Kevin Fletcher and Marty Coltrain. Brett Adlkins picked up the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Rookie of the Race Award with his win and Bob Terry picked up the Pro-Build Hard Luck Award.
