Second Annual Memorial Race Gets Ready to Rev Up

Winston-Salem, NC. --

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Drivers, fans and sponsors are all getting ready for the Second Annual Rusty Harpe Memorial Race sponsored by Lewis and Daggett, Attorneys at Law. The family fun event will take place at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, NC on Wednesday, July 2. The gates will open at 5:00 pm with racing starting at 8:00.

Rusty Harpe was the driver of the #71 Late Model Stock Car at Caraway Speedway. He was tragically killed in a farming accident in January of 2007. Rusty’s father, Chip Harpe, put this race together in a short time to honor his son in 2007.

“We are looking forward to this year’s race being bigger and better than last year,” said Chip. “I want to thank all of our sponsors for helping make this race happen. I also want to thank all the drivers for taking time out of their busy schedules to come race.”

Last year there were over 40 cars that tried to qualify for the race and 5000 fans in the stands. This year there are already over 25 cars preregistered for the 200 lap LMSC race. In addition to the main event there will be a 25 lap qualifier race and a 100 lap truck race.

If the excitement of the three races were not enough there will be other activities taking place before and during races.

As part of their program to raise awareness of the consequences of drinking and driving, especially on Prom Night, Lewis and Daggett will be handing out free t-shirts to the first 1,000 teens that come to the race.

"All of us at Lewis & Daggett are proud to be part of this event since we are long time friends with the Harpe family, and I was personally acquainted with Rusty,” said David D. Daggett, partner at Lewis and Daggett. “We look forward to a great day, a fun family event, and a tribute to Rusty - we are honored just to be part of it."

For everyone who has sponsored a lap or is a sponsor of the race, there will be a hospitality tent for a pre race meal. There will also be booths set-up where spectators can meet the sponsors of the race and learn more about their businesses.

For all the kids attending the race there will be inflatable bounce houses from JumpInKids.

Right before the race begins, the Winston-Salem Air Show will be doing a fly over to help get the race started.

During the race three fans will leave the track feeling like winners. The first lucky fan will win a Ladies Diamond Ring valued at $1000 from Hayes Jewelers. Another lucky winner will go home with a Husquvarna Handheld Blower from Dwaynes Mower Sales. The last fan will be planning their trip up to Martinsville, VA with their two tickets to Martinsville Speedway for the TUMS Quik Pak 500 on Sunday, October 19, 2008.
