Clint King Holds off Nick Stroupe in Wild Pro Challenge Action at Dillon

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:June 16, 2008

Young Guns Trade Jabs Late In Epic Toe-To-Toe Battle for North Region Win

There is a battle shaping up for the Pro Challenge North Region points title that is going to go right down to the wire. This became all too clear as the top three point men put on a show that you can only dream about Saturday night at Dillon Motor Speedway (SC). In the end, the 50-lap war went to Clint King, who held off Nick Stroupe and Devon Haun for his fifth Pro Challenge win in 2008.

“It was pretty crazy and it was an awesome race,” said King. “Nick (Stroupe) and I put on a great race for the fans. It was probably one the hardest races, if not the hardest race, I have ever run.”

Stroupe took the lead off the initial start and looked to have a solid car. A quick yellow on lap two brought the field back together and King jumped around Stroupe for lead. As the race went green for a good stretch, King pulled away and appeared to have the stronger car.

A series of yellows brought the field back together, setting up the duel to the finish between King, Stroupe and defending region champ Haun. With just eight laps to go, Stroupe made contact with King in turn-three and took the lead as King got out of the preferred racing groove. Stroupe’s lead did not last long, however, as King returned the contact in the next set of corners to re-claim the top spot.

“I was just trying to wait and not use up my stuff, but it got way too tight,” said Stroupe. “I got into him in turn four. I didn’t mean too and he got into me twice as hard. After that he was running me up on the restarts so I couldn’t get a run on him. It’s not fair, but that’s racing.”

“He got into me a little bit down here and when I dove back under him I slid up into him,” said King. “Rubbing is racing is what I have head a lot through my racing career. I really enjoyed this race and that’s two in a row for us. I hope we can keep it going at Franklin County.”

While King and Stroupe battled up front, Devon Haun then got into the mix as he got into Stroupe for second only to have to back off and settle for third.

“We set it up a little loose because tight is not fast going into the corner,” said Haun. “I pushed it to the limit a couple of times and that slowed me down a bit. I saw a little beating and banging going on in front of me. Tempers get flared on a hot day like this. It was a good race.”

Cautions kept slowing the pace, but King got away on the last restart and held on for the win over Stroupe and Haun. Justin Crider and Stephen Bergh rounded out the top-five. Meghan Dillner, Terry Horak, Chris Brown, Trevor Edwards and Kyle Wilson completed the top-ten.

Both King and Stroupe are tied atop the North Region point standings going into the next event, Saturday June 21st at Franklin County Speedway in Callaway, Virginia. The tight point race will continue with King, Stroupe and Haun all expected to be in attendance.
