Three Races, Three Top-Five Finishes in One Weekend for Woody Pitkat

Stafford, CT. --

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:June 2, 2008

Victory at Thompson Highlights the Weekend for Connecticut Racer

For some racecar drivers, a fourth–place result is the best finish that they might have all season long. For Woody Pitkat, it was just the worst finish he had in one weekend of short track racing.

Pitkat won in the Sunoco Modified division at Thompson International Speedway (CT) on Thursday night and backed that up with a pair of fourths in the SK Modified and Late Model races at Stafford Motor Speedway (CT) one night later.

Starting out the weekend with a victory was a bit of a surprise for Pitkat.

“I wasn’t as confident as I could have been going into that race,” said Pitkat. “We practiced there two weeks ago and it wasn’t as good as it should have been, so we brought it back to the shop and worked on it. In the first practice we were horrible, but it had old tires on it. The second practice we put new tires on it and it was better, but it was still off. Then we went out for the heat race and it was good, so I knew that it would be good for the feature. We had a good starting spot for the feature, and there were a lot of good cars around me, so I tried to get out front as quick as I could.”

To win at Thompson, Pitkat had to outgun Keith Rocco, who he has built up quite a racing rivalry with on the short tracks of Connecticut lately.

“Keith was good down the straightaways and he would get good runs on me, but I just had to hold him off,” said Pitkat. “It got kind of rough and tough, and I just have to say that I’m going to race him like he races me. It was probably the most aggressive that I’ve ever driven, but that is what you need to do with him.”

In the SK Modified race at Stafford Pitkat focused on the basics, and that was enough to overcome an early-race spin.

“We struggled here the last two weeks, and I thought that we gave two wins away,” said Pitkat. “We were trying something that didn’t work, so we went back to last year’s setup. It worked awesome last year, and it was good here. We’re making gains every week. I thought that we had it in the bag tonight, but unfortunately we got spun out and had to come from the rear. But we missed a lot of wrecks coming back through. So it could have been much worse. They knew we were here tonight and the car is in one piece, so we can try and get it better for next race.”

The Late Model feature was action-packed as well.

“The Late Model race was pretty rough, too. No matter what line I took was the wrong line, but all in all it was a good night. You can’t get down about two fourths.”

Pitkat will return to action again this week by racing at Thompson on Thursday night and Stafford on Friday night.
