NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at Langley Speedway

A big, six-race feature slate is planned for this Saturday, May 31, as Langley Speedway continues its 2008 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series schedule with Larry King, Professional Legal Services Night.

Saturday's lineup includes: Crossroads Fuel Service Late Model Stock Cars (100 laps); Super 8 Motels/B&B Engines Grand Stocks (40 laps); Peninsula Hardwood Mulch INEX Legends (25 laps); Wolf Contractors Wolf Trucks (25 laps); Standard Welding Pro 6s (30 laps); and, the Rolling Thunder Modified tour (75 laps).

Gates open at 1 p.m. and afternoon practice runs from 2 'til 4. The drivers meeting gets under way at 4:15, followed by time trials at 4:30. Pre-race ceremonies begin at 6:55 and the first feature event starts shortly after 7.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. "Little Race Fans" (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Military members in uniform are also admitted free. Military members in civvies (active-duty or retired, with ID) and senior citizens (60+, with ID) receive a $2 discount off the regular adult ticket price. "Family Packs," which include two adult and two children's tickets, are $25 - a savings of $5.

The Speedway will hold its regular, weekly "test and tune" session on Thursday, May 29. Gates open at 5 p.m. and practice begins at 6.

Pit admission is $10 with a valid NASCAR, INEX, HRKC or Langley Speedway license and $20 without a current competition license. There is no charge to watch from the grandstands.

Last Saturday was an off night for Langley's Late Model Stock Car class and several local competitors headed west for a 150-lapper at South Boston Speedway.

Nick Smith was the pole-sitter for the event and came away with an apparent victory. His car failed to clear the post-race inspection, however, elevating Wayne Ramsey to the win.

C.E. Falk was third in the official rundown, while Greg Edwards and Dude Gibbs placed seventh and eighth, respectively. Smith was shown in the 18th (last) position.

In Limited Sportsman action, Wesley Falk picked up the checkered flag, only to see the win wiped out in the post-race inspection.

Two drivers will be looking for their third straight win on Saturday night - Danny Edwards Jr. in Late Model Stock Car and Jammie Goode in Grand Stock. By track rules, though, they'll be starting from no better than eighth on the grid in their respective features.

So far this season, four back-to-back winners have attempted to overcome the less-than-ideal starting spot and all four have come up short in their quest for three in a row.

One more driver, Kevin Wagner in Pro 6, is also riding a two-race winning streak. Reportedly, he'll be out of town, though, and will miss this weekend's event. Defending HRKC Pro Winged Champ Kart champion David Phelps has been penciled in to pilot the #45 Pro 6 machine on Saturday.

The Speedway's "Wild Wacky Wednesdays" program continues on June 4. The popular mid-week event features street cars in 1-on-1 drag races (for one lap around the track), "Time Attacks" (solo runs against the clock) and burnout contests.

Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the fun gets under way at 7. Tickets are just $5 for adults and kids (6-12). Children under 6 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes for competitors are $15.

NASCAR action continues at Langley Speedway on Saturday, June 7, with Law Enforcement Night presented by Langley Federal Credit Union and Craftsman.

That evening's feature lineup includes: B&C Seafood Modifieds, Bass Pro Shops Super Streets, Med Express Urgent Care Super Trucks, E-Z Auto of Newport News UCARs and Rhonnda Claiborne, Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts.
