Ramsey Becomes First Repeat Winner At SBS
May 25, 2008 - updated May 25th, 2008 10:48am
Web posted by Tim Chandler

South Boston, VA. --

Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. became the first repeat winner in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car Division at South Boston Speedway with a victory in the 150-lap NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division race that highlighted Saturday night’s Craftsman Presents Charles Anderson Lawn Care Service event at South Boston Speedway.

Ramsey was declared the winner after the car driven by apparent race winner Nick Smith of Hampton, Va. failed to pass a post-race inspection.

The disqualification of Smith moved apparent third-place finisher, Justin Johnson of Durham, N.C., to second place and elevated apparent fourth-place finisher, C.E. Falk fo Virginia Beach, Va., to third place.

Deac McCaskill of Raleigh, N.C. and Jason Dickerson of Ruckervsille, Va. rounded out the top five in the revised finishing order.

Jonathan Bailey of Keysville, Va., Greg Edwards of Poquoson, Va., Dude Gibbs of Seaford, Va., Austin Dillon of Mooresville, N.C. and Brandon Butler of Sutherland, Va. rounded out the top ten finishers.

Ramsey started on the outside pole next to Smith, the pole winner, and immediately jumped into the lead.

Ramsey led the first 94 circuits with Smith, the pole winner, falling back to fourth spot in the early going. Smith passed Falk on the 54th lap to get back into the top three and sped past McCaskill on lap 61 to reach second place behind Ramsey.

Smith rallied to pass Ramsey for the lead on the 95th lap and quickly pulled away from the field, only to see his advantage erased by the race’s third caution flag on lap 114.

Caution flags for mishaps on lap 122 and 145 closed up the field again, with the last caution period forcing the race to go into overtime to accommodate a green-white-checker finish.

Smith got a huge jump on the final restart and was .770 second ahead of Ramsey when the cars sped under the checkered flag.

Peregoy Takes Limited Sporstman Division Win

Tommy Peregoy of Red Oak, Va. picked up his first win of the season in Saturday night’s 50-lap race for the NASCAR Limited Sportsman Division.

Peregoy finished second behind apparent race winner, Wesley Falk of Virginia Beach, Va. but was declared the winner after Falk’s car failed to pass a post-race inspection.

Two-time defending division champion, Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va., finished third on the track, but was elevated to second place after Falk’s disqualification. Steve Collins of Clover, Va., the driver of the entry fielded by the Halifax County, Va. Motorsports Academy, was credited with a third-place finish.

Joey Throckmorton of Scottsburg, Va. was credited with finishing fourth and Danny Willis, Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va. rounded out the top five finishers.

Anderson started on the outside pole and led the first nine laps before Falk took over the top spot on the tenth circuit. Three laps later, Anderson slid back to third place as Peregoy moved up into the runner-up spot.

The top three of Falk, Peregoy and Anderson stayed in that order the rest of the night, with Falk emerging as the apparent winner.

Conner, Allred Split Wins In Pure Stock Action

Joey Conner of Scottsburg, Va. and Joe Allred, III of Scottsburg, Va. each picked up a win in the twin 30-lap races for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

The split by Conner and Allred makes it three different winners in the season’s first four races for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division competitors.

The first of the two 30-lap races was a highly competitive affair, with the lead changing hands twice among three drivers.

Allred led the first 17 laps of the event before Milam took the lead. Conner grabbed the lead with six laps to go when Allred and Milam got pinned up behind slower cars while battling for the lead.

Conner held on the rest of the way to pick up his second win of the season. Allred finished second with Milam, of Ringgold, Va., Justin Tucker of Elon, N.C. and Billy Goble of Ringgold, Va. rounding out the top five finishers.

The nightcap had its share of excitement as well as that race also saw the lead change hands twice among three drivers.

Rookie Michael Jones of South Boston, Va. started on the pole and led the first eight laps before Milam sped into the top spot. As the race began to enter the final 10 laps, Milam found himself in a tough battle with Allred. Allred kept the pressure on Milam and wrestled the lead away with four laps to go.

Milam made a last-ditch run at Allred coming off of the fourth turn on the final lap but spun, forcing the caution flag to come out.

That mishap sent the race into overtime in order to accommodate a two-lap green-flag sprint to the finish. Allred got a good start on the restart and held off former division champion Chuck Watkins of Stem, N.C. to take the win.

Courtney Crosby of Scottsburg, Va. finished third with Bill Edwards of Ringgold, Va. and Chris Seay of Ringgold, Va. rounding out the top five finishers.

Lacks Wins Southern Vintage Modified race

Darryl Lacks of Goode, Va. took the lead from Jerry Scott of Ruffin, N.C. on the fourth lap and sped to victory in the 25-lap race for the Yellow Book USA Southern Vintage Modified Division.

The win was the first of the season for Lacks at South Boston Speedway.

Bill Lacks of Goode, Va., Donnie Lacks of Goode, Va. and Randy Smith of Bassett, Va. rounded out the top five finishers.
