Carlsen Ready to Hit the High Banks of Bristol

Carlsen Ready to Hit the High Banks of Bristol
after Tough Day at Orange County

Cornelius, NC ~ Melling Select Rookie of the Year candidate on the UARA-STARS Late Model Stock Car tour, Andrew Carlsen will get his first chance to climb the high banks of one of NASCAR's most famous tracks, the Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, TN.

Carlsen has undeniably been the top rookie on the toughest Late Model tour in the country and as the series rolls to its toughest venue on Saturday, May 17th for the UARA-STARS 150-lap race, the 19 year-old rookie sensation should again be the top rookie driver.  This race will be the first for the young driver on the half-mile bullring and unlike many young drivers, Carlsen isn't intimidated by racing on a track that the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competitors compete on twice a year.

"I'm really looking forward to getting up there and getting some laps on a track that the (Sprint) Cup guys race on.  That's huge, but I want to race with them one day, so racing there is just another step to continue to climb the ladder," said an unfazed Carlsen.

While Carlsen is certainly looking forward to his first laps around the Bristol high banks, looking back at Orange County Speedway (site of the last race), things didn't go as planned despite a tremendous effort by the 131-MAIN, Hangers Cleaners, OldWestGunSmith.com sponsored Carlsen Racing team.  Carlsen, who has had a stellar start to his inaugural run in the UARA-STARS Series - which includes a top 15 in his first race before breaking into the top 10 with an 8th place finish in race two and claiming the Melling Select Rookie of the Race award - looked to be at peak performance at Orange County Speedway for race three for the 16 race tour.

Unfortunately, a day that started off with Carlsen being fast in both practice sessions, then qualifying a season's best eleventh and racing the first half of the race inside the top ten saw things go sour around lap 80 when a lapped car took away his chance at a top five run or even a victory.  While racing hard for position near lap 80 of the 150-lap race, Carlsen encountered lapped traffic.  While most of the lapped cars tried their best to stay out of the way, unfortunately one did not, coming down on top of Carlsen's car, causing a huge pile-up that ruined all chances of a great finish.

"We had a great car, I don't know if we had anything for the top two or three cars, but I think we could have gotten our first top five.  But you know how things go.  It's racing, that's what happens out there.  I'm just glad to know we had a car that could compete at a very high level," commented Carlsen on the incident at Orange County.

Turning his attention back to the future, Carlsen is ready to go to Bristol and expects to be a top contender there as he has been so far on the UARA-STARS tour.  "We're going to be good at Bristol.  This team has been good every week and if we can get past the little bit of bad luck we had at Orange County, we'll be good.  Bristol sure would be a nice place to get my first top five finish."
