South Boston Speedway News
FDJ Motorsports seeking 3rd straight Late Model victory Saturday night at South Boston Speedway
May 8, 2008 - updated May 8th, 2008 10:13pm
Web posted by Tim Chandler

South Boston,VA --

Frank Deiny Jr. entered the 2008 season with high hopes for FDJ Racing at South Boston Speedway. Two races into the campaign, the owner of multiple Late Model Stock Cars isn’t disappointed.

FDJ Racing drivers Justin Johnson and Dude Gibbs claimed victories in the first two Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division events at America’s Hometown Track and when the green flag falls for the first of two 75-lap Late Model events Saturday in the USG presents Little Caesar’s Night NASCAR Whelen All American Series race program, Deiny will be bidding for a third consecutive win.

“That’s what we come to the racetrack for,” Deiny, a former South Boston Speedway track champion, said. ‘We come to get wins. That’s what everybody’s here for. It would be nice to make it four wins in a row by the end of the night Saturday.”

In addition to Johnson and Gibbs, FDJ Motorsports will also field a third entry Saturday night. Craftsman Truck Series competitor Andy Lally will be behind the wheel of a Deiny-owned Late Model Stock Car machine for the event, which is also being billed as Mother’s Night Out.

All mothers will be admitted Saturday at the discounted price of $5 in honor of the Mother’s Day weekend.

“Hey, we’re going to have three cars out there, so hopefully that will help our chances out that much more,” Deiny said. “It’s been a great year so far. Dude is leading the points here at South Boston and Justin is third. That’s a pretty good start for us. Hopefully, the No. 34, the No. 44 and the No. 54 cars will be out front Saturday.”

The three FDJ Racing machines will be challenged by a host of other top-notch Late Model Stock Car competitors from throughout the region.

“Most other racetracks are off this weekend, so I’m expecting some big names to be in the field,” Deiny said. “It should make for one heck of a show.”

In addition to the two 75-lap races for the Late Model Stock Car Division Saturday night, South Boston Speedway will also host racing action for the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the touring Legendary Ford Flathead Series.

Through three Limited Sportsman Division races thus far in 2008 at South Boston Speedway, there have been three different winners. They include current points leader Lee Pulliam, two-time defending division champion Bruce Anderson, who is second in the title chase this year, and Danny Willis Jr.

Pit gates will open Saturday at 1 p.m. with practice for all divisions beginning at 2:15 p.m. and continuing through 3:45 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get cranked up at 5:15 p.m.

Tickets are priced at $10 for adults. Youth, ages 7-12, will be admitted for $5 and children, ages 6 and under, will be admitted free. All youth must be accompanied by a paying adult to receive discounted admission.
