“WANTED” $500 Bounty Set On Casey Smith After Fifth Straight Viper Series Win at South Alabama Speedway
May 7, 2008 - updated May 7th, 2008 11:10pm

Austin, TX --

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:5/7/08

Casey Smith, the Texas native, who for the past two seasons has traveled east to compete at race tracks throughout the Southeastern U.S., once again showed that the Labonte’s aren’t the only racing talents from the great state of Texas. Smith blew the field away in qualifying then followed it up with a dominating victory in the first race of South Alabama Speedway’s Viper super late model series.

Last season, the Viper series season opening race was the turning point for the Casey Smith Racing team as they picked up their first win of the season. The same can be said here in ’08. Casey went on to win all four of the 2007 Viper series races including the Viper series championship at the Opp, AL race track. So far, even though the beginning of the ’08 season has been a rough start on equipment, the Casey Smith Racing team looks to be on track to repeat as the Viper series champion.

“Its seems like every year we have a little trouble getting rolling but then we come here and take home a victory and then its on from there. My sponsors, Rapid Disposal, Gary Buchanan Custom Homes, and Five Star Race Bodies have been great to me this year so I have to thank them for their continued support of this race team. We have spent the first few weeks of the season putting the car back together and have not had the chance to fine tune things as much as I’d like but it looks like we’ve got it going pretty well,” said Smith.

While Smith may list the South Alabama Speedway as a track that he favors his fellow competitors have seemed to back away from the facility as only twelve super late models were on hand for the 125 lap race. Some have even deemed the track “Casey’s Track” and making the decision not to compete against him. This has fueled South Alabama Speedway’s owner/promoter, John Dykes, to put a $500 bounty on any driver who can outright beat Smith on June 21st at the next Viper super late model series race without controversy. Over the past few seasons Casey has won over $40,000 from South Alabama Speedway alone, so the driver that does beat him may have their work cut out for them.

When asked about the bounty Smith had this to say,” I think its actually pretty funny and a good promotion. I just hope you don’t get guys in here that want to wreck me just to get a little extra cash but I know John Dykes good enough that he won’t let something like that happen because he has always called a fair race ever since I have raced there.”
