Jamaica, VA --

There are easier ways to win a race, Walker Arthur of Forest, VA decided to do it the hard way on way to victory in Round 1 of the Victory Lap Late Model $25,000 Challenge presented by BB&T at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway. After taking the lead on lap 2, Arthur suffered a right rear flat on lap 5 sending him to the rear. Arthur worked the traffic to perfection and retook the top spot on lap 26 of the 40 lap affair. Arthur went on to take the victory and is now eligible for a $25,000 bonus should he be able to sweep the four race series.

“The competitors here are the best in the business so to do what we did tonight really shows how well the car was working tonight. This track is awesome, you could run anywhere on it. We are going to do our best to take all four wins in this series, no one deserves to win the $25,000 more than my dad,” commented Arthur in victory lane.

Rounding out the top five were Austin Hubbard, Stevie Long, Sommey Lacey Jr. and Anthony Kincaid. Ben Bowie picked up the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Rookie of the Race Award with a sixth place finish.

In other action Daren Bolac of Moyock, NC cruised to his second New Generation Racing Sprint Car win in as many races. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap feature Tim Shelton took the lead on lap 2 and never looked back to take his second win in a row and in the Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature Wayne Suite of Mechanicsville, MD picked up his first victory at Virginia Motor Speedway.

Stephen Evans and Donnie Marshall led the field to green with Evans taking control of the top spot out of turn 2. On the following circuit Walker Arthur drove inside Evans to take the lead out of turn 2. Once out front Arthur began to pull away. On lap 5 the races second caution would come out when Brandon Long lost a drive shaft. That’s when things went wrong for Arthur as he ran over the drive shaft sending him to pit road with a flat right rear tire, relegating him to the rear of the field.

On the restart Evans lead Tom Cohick, Matt Morgan, Brett Royal, Austin Hubbard and the rest of the field back into turn 1. On lap 6 the battle was for 6th as Ben Bowie and Sommey Lacey Jr. went at it door to door. On lap 8 the battle for the lead heated up as Cohick drove inside Evans in Turn 2 to challenge for the top spot. The two raced side by side until Cohick took the top spot on lap 10.

On lap 11 Morgan drove under Evans in turn 1 to take second and set out to catch Cohick. A caution on lap 12 tightened the field up once again and on the restart Morgan challenged Cohick for the top spot with Cohick holding on to the top spot.

Behind the leaders Arthur had worked his way back to eighth using the top side to works his way back to the front. On lap 12 restart Morgan got under Cohick in turn 1, the two raced side by side back to the line with Cohick barely holding on to the lead.

On lap 14 the battle for the lead got exciting in turn 2 with Cohick, Morgan and Stevie Long exiting three wide with Morgan coming out with the lead followed by Long. Cohick pressing hard brought out the next caution when he spun in turn 4 collecting several cars and ending his night.

On the restart all eyes were on Arthur who lurked in sixth. With Morgan in control on lap 19 the battle for fourth heated up as Ben Bowie, Eddie Groome and Arthur wrestled for the spot with Arthur emerging the victor. On lap 24 Arthur rocketed around the outside of Lacey for 3rd and then after Long taking second on the following circuit.

On lap 26 Morgan brought out the caution while leading with a spin in turn 4. Long had gotten back under Arthur only to be relegated him to second. On the restart Arthur began to pull away as the battle for fourth got three wide with Anthony Kincaid, Ben Bowie and Austin Hubbard. Hubbard emerged with the spot as Arthur continued to hold the slim lead.

The races final caution came on lap 38 setting up a green, white, checkered finish. On the restart Arthur got a great start with Hubbard working the high side to perfection taking third from Lacey and then second from Long heading to the white flag. Arthur had enough to hold off Hubbard to take the round one victory to set himself up for a $25,000 bonus.

In the new Generation Racing Sprint Car 25 lap feature it took several tries to get the feature started with Brett Blose and Eric Keck leading the field to green the first time. When it was all said and done Daren Bolac emerged with the lead and Craig Folmar sprinting to second.

Bolac pulled away from the battle for second as Tom Humphries took the spot from Folmar out of turn four on lap 8. At the halfway point Bolac had a straight away lead as Folmar retook second from Humphries. But it was Bolac on cruise control taking his second win in as many races. Rounding out the top five were Craig Folmar, Tommy Humphries, Mary Ann Williams and Tyler Shipp. Brent Bordeaux picked up the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Rookie of the Race Award with a seventh place finish.

In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap feature Stephen Childress and Okey Synan Jr. led the field to green. It didn’t take long for Tim Shelton to get to the front as he took the lead from Childress on the next circuit.

On the restart Shelton pulled away as Roger Jamerson began to pressure Kenny Moreland for second. On lap 12 Jamerson took the spot with an inside move in turn 2. Moreland continued to work the outside of Jamerson trying to retake second. On lap 18 the two got together in turn 4 bringing out the caution and sending both drivers to the rear of the field.

With Shelton in control the battle for second between Synan and Tony Wood began to heat up. Shelton cruised to victory with Okey Synan jr. holding off Tony Wood for second. Rounding out the top five were J.R. guy and Taylor Doggett.

In the Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature Brett Adkins and Wayne Suite Sr. led the field to green with Adkins take the top spot out of turn 2. Adkins held on to the top spot with Suite and Kevin Fletcher battling for second. Caution came out on lap 4 for a wreck on the front stretch, Adkins then pulled on pit road with mechanical problems handing the lead over to Suite. On the restart Bob Terry went to third working his way around Ryan Toole for the spot.

Suite dominated the remaining laps as Stephen Childress and Toole battled for second back to the checkers with Suite taking his first win at Virginia Motor Speedway. Rounding out the top five were Stephen Childress, Ryan Toole, Bobby Shreves and Lee Oldaker. Bobby Shreves picked up the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Rookie of the Race Award with his fourth place finish.
