Virginia Motor Speedway’S 2008 Season Opener Just Weeks Away
Mar 16, 2008 - updated Mar 16th, 2008 1:32am
Web posted by Dace Seay

Jamaica, VA. --

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

The much anticipated, 2008 season is just weeks away for Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway. Driver registrations continue to stream in at a record pace and Speedway officials expect a banner year for the ½ mile, high-banked clay oval speed plant.

The speedway has undertaken several new construction projects in preparation of the 2008 season. All will enhance the racing experience for our fans and competitors. The new Paul Sawyer Tower has been completed and will provide 1500 new executive type seats featuring an expanded seat area and armrests. The new racing surface has been completed along with new safety fencing and a new scoreboard for the turn 3 stands.

March 29th opening night festivities will include the Victory Lap Late Models, Budweiser Modifieds, New Generation Racing Sprint Cars and the newly formed Limited Stock Car division in some tight, side by side dirt track racing. Competitor gates will open at 12 Noon with spectator gates opening at 4pm.

Admission for Virginia Motor Speedway’s opening night will be Adults $10, Seniors and Military $8; Students 13 – 17 years old $7, Children 7 – 12 years old $4 and Children 6 and under admitted free. The speedway offers a $2 discount coupon on the Speedway’s Website, good on any Adult, Senior and Military tickets. Fans will need to have a coupon for each ticket purchased. The speedway also offers a “Family Pack” that includes two adult admissions and two children 12 and under admissions for only $20.

Camping is allowed during events at the Speedway and special group ticket discounts are available for regional businesses, civic and charitable organizations. For details contact the Speedway offices.

The Speedway will hold two open practices for all divisions, the first this coming Saturday, March 15th from 9am till 5pm and then next Saturday, March 22nd from 9am till 5pm. Fans are invited to come out and watch open practice to see all the new cars and paint schemes. There will be no charge for grandstand admission for open practice. Anyone wanting to visit the pits will be required to buy a pit pass. Pit passes will be $20 per person. All cars must be registered and inspected before they will be allowed to practice.

Registrations are currently being accepted with all numbers being given out on a first come first served basis. Competitors can obtain a 2008 registration form by going to the tracks website or by calling the speedway Monday through Friday 10am through 3pm at (804) 758-1867.

The tentative 2008 schedule has been released and includes 25 weeks of Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Championship action starting with opening night March 29th and ending September 20th with the 39th Annual Fall Classic. To see the entire 2008 schedule in its entirety, visit the Speedway’s website at www.vamotorspeedway.com.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track affiliate, is a 1/2-mile, dirt oval. The track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads areas.
