SBS Season Finale To Be Doubleheader
Feb 28, 2008 - updated Feb 28th, 2008 4:24pm
Web posted by

South Boston, VA --

After more than two months of planning, South Boston Speedway officials and officials of the Pro All Stars Series have agreed to stage a stock car racing doubleheader on Saturday, October 25, as South Boston Speedway’s season finale.

The event, the NASCAR Barkhouser Late Model 250 and the PASS Championship 250, will feature a 250-lap race for South Boston Speedway’s NASCAR Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division and a 250-lap race for the Super Late Models of the PASS racing series, giving fans 500 laps of racing action in one big event.

“We feel like this will be a very exciting event for our fans,” said South Boston Speedway General Manager Cathy Rice.

“Many fans know very well the excitement and the intensity of the competition that the teams and drivers of our Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division display during their events here at South Boston Speedway. The PASS Super Late Models put on a very exciting show when they ran here the year before last. Bringing these two series together at South Boston Speedway in one big event will give fans of both series a great show on which to end the 2008 season.”

The 250-lap race for South Boston Speedway’s Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division will be the longest and richest Late Model Stock Car Division race of the season at South Boston Speedway. A $10,000 prize will go to the winner of the 250-lap Late Model Stock Car Division race, the same prize the track paid out for the 300-lap races of recent seasons.

South Boston Speedway officials and officials of the Pro All Stars Series are still working to finalize further details of the event. Rice said, however, that the event is scheduled to be a two-day event with practice and qualifying on Friday, October 24, with the two feature races being run on Saturday afternoon, October 25.

Racing action begins at South Boston Speedway with the track’s season-opening event on Saturday afternoon, March 22. The season-opener will be a five-race event that will include races for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division, the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division, the Yellow Book USA Southern Vintage Modified Division, and the INEX Legends.

To give drivers and teams an opportunity to shake down their cars prior to the opening race, South Boston Speedway officials have scheduled an Open Practice Day on Saturday, March 15, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Track officials are encouraging drivers and teams that plan to compete at South Boston Speedway this season to take advantage of the Open Practice date to get in their practice runs.

South Boston Speedway officials are continuing to accept applications from young ladies interested in serving as Miss South Boston Speedway for the 2008 season. Interested applicants must be a minimum of 18-years-old and must be able to attend all of South Boston Speedway’s 18 events during the 2008 season.

Applicants must submit a resume and photos for consideration. The deadline for submitting applications is March 1.

Interested applicants may submit their resumes and photos to the South Boston Speedway office Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. In addition, applications may be submitted by mail by writing to the speedway at P.O. Box 1066, South Boston, Va. 24592.

South Boston Speedway 2008 season passes and reserved season tailgating spaces continue to remain on sale. Season passes are priced at $160 each and reserved season tailgating spaces are available for $285 each.

Season passes and season reserved tailgating spaces may be purchased at the speedway office, Monday through Friday, during regular business hours, by phone at 434-572-4947 or 1-877-440-1540, or by mail at the previously mentioned address.

For more information about the 2008 racing season at South Boston Speedway or any event at South Boston Speedway, visit the track’s website at www.southbostonspeedway.com or telephone the speedway at 434-572-4947 or 1-877-440-1540.
