Andy Seuss Named As The New NASCAR WHELEN Southern Modified Tour Driver For Riggs Racing

Winston-Salem, N.C. --

(Jan. 18, 2008)

The final piece to one of the biggest off-season puzzles surrounding the future NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour driver for Riggs Racing was solved in a Friday afternoon press conference at Bowman Gray Stadium when Andy Seuss was named as the new pilot of the Advance Auto Parts Dodge.

Two-time Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship co-owner Jeff Riggs was in attendance at the news conference at the legendary quarter-mile track’s infield and could be seen sporting a wide grin when Seuss climbed out of Bowman Gray’s Modified show-car to inform the media as what the future holds for the 20 year-old native of Hampstead, N.H.

The goal for both Seuss and Riggs Racing in 2008 is really rather simple – win as many races as possible but most importantly get the Martinsville, Va.-based race team back into Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship contention.

It’s a high mark that the Riggs operation has become quite accustomed to after winning two straight Whelen Southern Modified Tour championships in 2005 and 2006 with legendary Modified driver Junior Miller behind the wheel.

Riggs Racing and Miller came to a mutual agreement at the end of the 2007 Whelen Southern Modified Tour season to change their direction and part ways.

Seuss admits the opportunity to be with a championship-caliber team like Riggs Racing on the Whelen Southern Modified Tour was a chance he couldn’t resist and one of the reasons he decided to make the more than 1,000-mile commute on race weekends.

“When you think of Riggs Racing the first thing that comes to mind is all the domination that they’ve had down south winning races and championships,” Seuss explained. “This team is always a threat to win anytime they go to the track. It was really a big deal to me personally to even be considered for this ride. To actually get the ride and have a chance like this in front of me is just amazing.

“Right now I’m just looking forward to seeing what we can do together this year because I know we’re all shooting for the top.”

Not only will their be a new driver at Riggs Racing but also a different look of sorts as the team allowed Miller to transfer and keep his familiar No. 69 to the new Whelen Southern Modified Tour team he will both own and drive for. The new scheme for both Riggs and Seuss will be the No. 47 Advance Auto Parts Dodge with associate sponsorship from Shell.

The new Riggs-Seuss duo won’t have to wait much longer to see what’s in store for them as the Whelen Southern Modified Tour is set for its season-opener on March 22 at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, N.C.
