Tickets Still Available For South Boston Speedway Awards Ceremony
Jan 14, 2008 - updated Jan 14th, 2008 4:09pm
Web posted by

South Boston, VA. --

South Boston Speedway will officially crown its 2007 season NASCAR track champion Saturday night, January 19, at the annual South Boston Speedway Awards Ceremony.

This year’s ceremony will be held at The Prizery at 700 Bruce Street in downtown South Boston, Va. The awards ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. in the Chastain Theater and a Champions Reception featuring food, refreshments and music will follow.

Tickets are priced at $30 each and are still available. Tickets may be purchased at the South Boston Speedway office Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. In addition, tickets may be ordered by telephone by calling the speedway at 434-572-4947 or 1-877-440-1540.

South Boston Speedway’s 2007 Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division champion Adam Barker of Hurt, Va., Limited Sportsman Division champion Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va., Budweiser Pure Stock Division champion Chuck Watkins of Stem, N.C. and Southern Vintage Modified Division champion Randy Smith of Bassett, Va. will be among the competitors that will be honored at the awards ceremony.

South Boston Speedway officials are in the process of gearing up for the start of the 2008 season, which kicks off on Saturday afternoon, March 22. The track will stage 18 events in 2008 with 16 points races for South Boston Speedway’s top three NASCAR racing divisions to be encompassed in 14 race dates.

Among the track’s special events for the 2008 season are a 150-lap NASCAR Grand National Division, Busch East Series race on Saturday night, May 31, two USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series Northern Division races (April 19 and August 9), and a new event on Friday night, October 17, for the Old School racing Champions Tour, a racing series featuring former NASCAR and ARCA racing stars.

Also among the special events for the 2008 season are the track’s annual pre-Fourth of July racing extravaganza, the Bailey’s 200, on Thursday night, July 3, which features a 200-lap NASCAR Late Model Stock Car race and a dazzling Fourth of July fireworks display.

In addition, track officials are in the process of planning a special season finale event on Saturday, October 25, the details of which will be announced at a later date.

Fans are reminded that South Boston Speedway 2008 season passes are on sale for $160, a price that represents a $15 savings from the price of the track’s 2007 season passes.

South Boston Speedway also has reserved 2008 season tailgating spots on the backstretch on sale for $285 each. Fans can pull their car or truck into the tailgating spot and have a prime spot from which to watch the races and tailgate along with their family and friends.

Fans still have an opportunity to purchase copies of South Boston Speedway’s 50th anniversary book entitled “South Boston Speedway: The First Fifty Years,” for $15 per copy. A true collector’s item, the book gives readers a detailed history of South Boston Speedway complete with stories and photos of the people and competitors that have made the track the legendary fixture in NASCAR racing that it is today.

Season passes, reserved tailgating spots and copies of the track’s 50th anniversary book may be purchased at the speedway office during regular business hours from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Fans may also order by mail by writing to South Boston Speedway, P.O. Box 1066, South Boston, Va. 24592 or by telephoning the speedway at 434-572-4947 or 1-877-440-1540.
