The 22nd Annual Piedmont Racing Expo will get underway Friday, January 18 at 1pm at the State Fairgrounds in Raleigh, NC. “Our event has grown tremendously since coming to the larger venues at the Fairgrounds”, said veteran racer, auctioneer, and promoter Phillip Walker of Hillsborough, NC. Walker stated, “The 50,000 sq. ft. Exposition Center has allowed us to concentrate on enlarging the trade show portion of the Expo. Our 2008 event looks to be the largest high performance trade show in North Carolina.”
Spectators visiting the Expo will get to see representatives of High Performance and Racing Distributors from several states, area speedways and touring series will be on hand to distribute 2008 rules and schedules. Area speedway champions will have their race cars on display, and oval track and drag racers will have the opportunity to buy and sell racing parts, race cars, tow trucks, trailers, and more. Several specialty exhibits are also planned for show.
In addition to the trade show, the mainstay of the Piedmont Racing Expo is the Racing Auction. Racer’s will consign up to 1000 lots to go across the Piedmont auction block starting at 5pm on Friday, January 18, and continuing at 9AM on Saturday, January 19, 2008
Consignments are needed for the auction. Racers are urged to pre-register parts for the best selling lot numbers. Consignments will be accepted at the Exposition Center on the fairgrounds from 10am-8PM on Wednesday, January 16 and from 10AM-6PM on Thursday, January 17. No consignments will be accepted on Friday. Exhibitors can setup anytime Wed- Friday Noon.
Walker stated. “We hope to have exhibits and fun things to do for everyone...not only the hardcore racers but also their kids, their fans, and racing spectators”, Walker added. “We will have some new attractions for racers and fans to enjoy…some of which we’ll not announce until the Expo opens.” In an effort to make the expo a Family event, Walker states that starting in 2008, all ladies will be admitted free to the Expo. “Racing has always been a family sport so we invite racers to bring their entire families and pit crews to the Expo”, said Walker.
The Expo opens at 1PM on Friday, with the parts auction starting at 5pm, selling lots 1-300.
Saturday’s Parts Auction starts at 9am and rolling stock, including race cars, tow trucks, and trailers, will be sold at approximately 2pm on Saturday.
