Tough Return to Arena Racing USA for Hoffman
Oct 30, 2007 - updated Oct 30th, 2007 8:28pm

Mooresville, NC --

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:10/29/07

It was a less than desirable night, to say the least, for reigning Arena Racing USA-Charlotte champion Nick Hoffman and the entire Charlotte Checkers race team. Hoffman made his debut with new team Tex Motorsports and sponsor Charlotte Checkers Hockey Club at the 2007-08 Arena Racing USA-Charlotte season opening event on Friday October 26th.

Hoffman looked to have picked up right where he left off in the day’s first practice session being recognized as one of the quickest cars to hit the track. However, while the car’s handling performance seemed to be on track, mechanical issues surfaced during the final practice session and continued during the team’s qualifying heat race where Hoffman had to settle for second place which put the #15 Charlotte Checkers Ford Fusion into the night’s A-Main event.

The Charlotte Checkers backed team then made the decision to change the motor before the night’s A-Main event in hopes of eliminating any mechanical problems. It didn’t even take Hoffman taking the green flag to realize that the problem was still there. While riding around under the caution, Hoffman relayed to crew chief Darrell Hoffman that the car still seemed under powered in comparison to his fellow competitors. Hoffman soon showed exactly why he is the defending Arena Racing USA-Charlotte champion as the Missouri state native who now resides in Mooresville, North Carolina finished fifth after starting at the rear of the field due to the engine change.

The fifth place finish in the A-Main qualified Hoffman for the bonus race known to Arena Racing USA fans as the “Top Dog” event. This race pairs the winners and the top transferred drivers from each of the night’s mains against each other in a battle of the best verses the best for bonus championship points. Unfortunately, it seemed like it was night for Murphy’s Law as the race came to an early end for Hoffman when the car lost power ending the night for the fifteen year old driver. It was later discovered that the fuel pick up on the #15 Charlotte Checkers Ford Fusion had broke causing the night’s problems.

“This was a really tough night for us tonight. It’s one of those nights you wish you never had but are bound to happen sometime or another. Our car was great as far as the handling goes; it just had no get up and go. We will just have to take it back to the shop and see if we can’t figure out what the problem is. I want to thank everyone that really helped us out especially Jason Wiesman and Rich Gould and not to mention some of the Checkers that came out like Dusty Jamison, Lee Falardeau, and Bruce Graham. I love it when those guys are able to come out and see us in action,” said Hoffman.
