Ramsey Seeks To Continue Streak In SoBo 300
Oct 25, 2007 - updated Oct 25th, 2007 10:22pm
Web posted by

South Boston, Va. --

The entry list for this weekend’s season- ending SoBo 300 NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division race reads like a “Who’s Who” list among the region’s top drivers and teams. Among that list are former South Boston Speedway NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division champions Frank Deiny Jr. of Ashland, Va. and Brandon Butler of Sutherland, Va.

The list also includes former South Boston Speedway champions Drew Herring of Benson, N.C., Philip Morris of Ruckersville, Va., the third-place finisher in this season’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national standings and Wayne Patterson of Chesterfield, Va. South Boston Speedway’s 2007 champion in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division, Adam Barker of Hurt, Va. is also included on that list.

There are many other top drivers included on the early entry list that has swelled to almost 50 cars including Ford driver Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va., who finished second to Barker in the South Boston Speedway Late Model Stock Car Division championship chase. When it comes down to momentum, Ramsey has plenty of it entering the two-day event which will be highlighted by the running of the SoBo 300, a 300-lap, 120-mile Late Model Stock Car Division race, which is scheduled to get the green flag Saturday at 2 p.m. Ramsey won the last four regular-season points races at the .4-mile oval, a factor that has him feeling confident about the SoBo 300, which will pay $10,000 to the winner.

“We finished the regular points season really strong,” Ramsey said. “It was a lot of fun making that run. To finish the season strong like that is big. It gives you confidence that you can get the job done here. Hopefully we can come back and have a good clean race and get the results we’re looking for.” The13th Annual SoBo 300, the longest and richest NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division race of the season at South Boston Speedway, will be a two-day event with action on Friday, October 26 and Saturday, October 27.

Advance tickets are priced at $10 with adult general admission tickets being priced at $15 on race day. Tickets for youth ages 10-15 are $10 each. Kids ages nine and under will be admitted free with a paid adult. Grandstand gates will open at 11 a.m. on race day. The two-day event begins Friday, October 26 with practice from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. The $500 GE Tile & Design Pole Award will be on the line when qualifying time trials begin at 4 p.m. The fastest 15 cars in Friday’s qualifying time trials will be locked into the field for Saturday’s SoBo 300.

Admission for Friday’s practice and qualifying is $5 with children ages nine and under admitted free. The action continues on Saturday, October 27, at 12 noon, when 30-lap qualifying races will be run to determine starting positions 16-30 for the SoBo 300 A 25-lap Last Chance race at 1 p.m. will determine the final four starting spots. Two provisional starting spots will be available to complete the 36-car starting field for the 300-lap feature race.

The SoBo 300 feature race is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start on Saturday with the race slated to be run in two segments. The first segment will be 150 laps (60 miles) and the second segment will consist of the remaining laps. There will be a 15-minute break between the segments during which teams can change two tires and make adjustments to the cars. A $500 DRP Performance Products and South Boston Speedway Halfway Leader Award will be presented to the driver leading the race at lap 150.

For more information about the SoBo 300 or South Boston Speedway’s 50th anniversary season, visit the speedway’s website at www.southbostonspeedway.com or telephone the speedway at 434-572-4947 or 1-877-440-1540.
