South Boston, VA. --

Late Model Stock Car race at South Boston Speedway comes around in the fall, fans can expect to see the cream of the crop of the region’s NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division drivers and teams. One of the top drivers in that group is Frank Deiny Jr. of Ashland, Va. Deiny, who is returning to defend his win in last year’s race, is a driver that has to be at or near the top of the list of pre-race favorites based on the fact that he owns the most victories in the track’s 300-lap, 120-mile marathon. Entering this year’s 13th Annual SoBo 300, which will be run on Saturday, October 27 at 2 p.m. as the feature race of a big two-day race weekend, Deiny has won three of the previous 12 editions of South Boston Speedway’s showcase NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division race. “I’ve won this race a couple or three times and I really have a blast coming back to South Boston Speedway,” said Deiny, who will making only his fifth start in Late Model Stock Car Division competition this season when the green flag drops on this weekend’s race. “The competition here is outstanding every year and there seems to be a different star here every year. Adam Barker won the track championship this year and Wayne Ramsey has been on a roll. It will be a lot of fun to come in here and try to get the job done again.” Deiny says the level of the competition in the annual 300-lap race is a big attraction for him. “To me, this race is a lot like Martinsville.” Deiny said. “You get the best of the best coming into Martinsville and coming here to South Boston. It’s a lot of fun to be able to race against all of the talent that there is in the Late Model Stock Car Series.”

The13th Annual SoBo 300, will be run this weekend, Friday, October 26 and Saturday, October 27, will be headlined by a 300-lap, 120-mile NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division race that will pay $10,000 to win. Advance tickets are priced at $10 with adult general admission tickets being priced at $15 on race day. Tickets for youth ages 10-15 are $10 each. Kids ages nine and under will be admitted free with a paid adult. Grandstand gates will open at 11 a.m. on race day. The race, the longest and richest race of the season that the track hosts for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division, will carry a $52,300 purse. Fans will get to see plenty of action throughout the two-day event, which begins Friday, October 26. Activity on Friday begins with practice from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. The $500 GE Tile & Design Pole Award will be on the line when qualifying time trials begin at 4 p.m. The fastest 15 cars in Friday’s qualifying time trials will be locked into the field for Saturday’s SoBo 300. Admission for Friday’s practice and qualifying is $5 with children ages nine and under admitted free. The action continues on Saturday, October 27, at 12 noon, when 30-lap qualifying races will be run to determine starting positions 16-30 for the SoBo 300 A 25-lap Last Chance race at 1 p.m. will determine the final four starting spots. Two provisional starting spots will be available to complete the 36-car starting field for the 300-lap feature race. The SoBo 300 feature race will be run in two segments with the first segment being 150 laps (60 miles) and the second consisting of the remaining laps. There will be a 15-minute break between the segments during which teams can change two tires and make adjustments to the cars. A $500 DRP Performance Products and South Boston Speedway Halfway Leader Award will be presented to the driver leading the race at lap 150.
