NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at Langley Speedway

Speedway kicks off its schedule of special post-season events with the Second Annual Virginia State UCAR Championship and the Inaugural King/Queen of Champ Karts - a combination event for the HRKC and MACKA organizations. E-Z Vest Realty is helping to present the full day of action.
• Saturday's championship event for the E-Z Auto Rental UCARs will be a 75-lap affair. Thirty cars will make up the starting field. The top 20 spots will be locked in through time trials, while the results of a pair of heat races will determine positions 21-30.
Kevin Alves is the defending race winner. He was able to carry the momentum from his victory into this season and claimed Langley's '07 UCAR title.
• Three 20-lappers will make up the Champ Kart portion of the program. The Kim Jusino, Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts and the Steadfast Security MACKA Champ Karts will each run a 20-lap qualifier. Drivers may only compete in one of the qualifiers. The top 12 finishers from those two races will advance to the main event and a chance to be crowned King (or Queen) of Champ Karts for the 2007 season.
• The Wolf Contractors Wolf Trucks and the Pro 6 Series will also be on hand on Saturday. Each division is slated for a 40-lap feature contest.
Gates open and inspections begin at 12 noon. Practice rounds run from 2 p.m. 'til 4, followed by a drivers meeting at 4:15. Time trials get under way at 4:30. UCAR heat races (if necessary) start at 6:15 and the evening's feature slate goes green at 7.
Tickets are just $5 for adults and children, 6-12. "Little Race Fans" (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
• • •
The winner of Saturday's UCAR race will pocket $1,000, while the overall Champ Kart winner will receive a set of brand new tires, a championship jacket and two tickets to Langley's upcoming awards banquet. The Wolf Truck race is $250-to-win and the Pro Sixers will be competing for a $100 top prize. Pole Awards and Hard Charger Awards are also up for grabs in each division.

An afternoon and evening of motorized mayhem is slated for Saturday, Oct. 20, when Langley Speedway hosts the "Night of Destruction" presented by Bud's Heating & Air Conditioning.
The lineup includes: an Enduro race, a trio of demolition derbies (domestic, import, powder puff), an appliance race, a reverse race, a bag race and tug-of-war and burnout competitions. Over $6,000 in prize money has been posted for the event.
Gates open at 10 a.m. and the fun starts at 1 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. "Little Race Fans" (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Military members in uniform are also admitted free. Military members in civvies (active-duty or retired, with ID) and senior citizens (60+, with ID) receive a $2 discount off the adult ticket price. "Family Packs," which include two adult and two children's tickets, are $25.

The Kim Jusino, Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts wrapped up their 2007 points season during last Sunday's regular Hampton Roads Kart Club meet at the Speedway. David Phelps had already secured the series title and sat out the finale.
Ryan Hudgins, who provided effective drafting assistance for other drivers throughout the year, finally got his turn at the head of the field on Sunday and came away with his first victory. Casey Wyatt, Spencer Saunders, Dannie Wyatt and Adam Chalkley completed the top five.

Langley Speedway will celebrate its 2007 campaign on Friday, Oct. 26, with its annual awards gala. The event will be held at the Hellenic Community Center on Traverse Road in Newport News, Va. The social hour begins at 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7:30, followed by awards presentations and other fun and frivolity.
Tickets are $35 each and are available at the Speedway office.

The Speedway family extends its well-wishes for a rapid recovery to Speedway boss Lou Gioia. Lou took ill during last Saturday's points season finale and underwent surgery on Tuesday.
