Miss Utility 150 Set Saturday At South Boston Speedway
Sep 10, 2007 - updated Sep 10th, 2007 5:46pm
Web posted by

South Boston, VA --

After a weekend off, NASCAR racing action will return to South Boston Speedway Saturday night, September 15, with the running of the Miss Utility 150 racing program. The Miss Utility 150 racing program, which gets the green flag at 7 p.m., will be the next-to-last points race of the season at South Boston Speedway, making it an important event for drivers who are chasing the track’s four division championships. Saturday night’s Miss Utility 150 racing program will consist of five races with a150-lap race for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division as the featured event. Also, set on Saturday’s five-race program are races for the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division, the INEX Legends Cars Series and the Legendary Ford Flatheads Racing Association.

The Miss Utility 150 race-day schedule calls for pit gates open at 1 p.m. Practice will go from 2:15 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Qualifying time trials start at 5:15 p.m. and the first race will start at 7 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. with the track’s Early Bird special admission of $8 for adults in effect until 6:30 p.m. Adult admission after that will be $10. Youths ages 10-15 will be admitted for $5. Kids ages 9 and under will be admitted free.
While one points race will remain after Saturday night’s Miss Utility 150, two of the track’s four division championships could be determined this weekend. One of the division titles that could possibly be clinched this weekend is the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division. Ten-time winner Adam Barker of Hurt, Va. holds a 52-point lead over three-time winner Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. entering this weekend’s action. A win by Barker or a circumstance in which Barker finishes ahead of Ramsey would likely be enough to put Barker over the top. Eddie Johnson of Midlothian, Va. sits in third place and likely cannot surpass Ramsey. However, Johnson does have to defend his position as C.E. Falk of Virginia Beach, Va. is in fourth place, just 20 points behind Johnson with David Triplett Jr. of Timberlake, N.C. occupying fifth place, just 16 points behind Falk and 36 points behind Johnson.

The other division title that could possibly be wrapped up Saturday night is the Limited Sportsman Division. Defending division champion Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va., a 12-time winner in the division, brings a 66-point lead over Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va. into Saturday night’s action. Anderson, with a win or a circumstance in which he finishes ahead of Willis, should be able to lock up the championship. Willis, however, has pressure from behind as Brian Pembleton of Amelia, Va. is in third place, only 22 points down to Willis with two races to go. Behind Pembleton is a tight four-way battle for fourth place between Lee Pulliam of Semora, N.C., Terri Marks of Capron, Va., Timmy Langford of Amelia, Va. and Wesley Falk of Virginia Beach, Va. Two of the track’s division points races are still very much up for grabs. Defending Budweiser Pure Stock Division champion Chuck Watkins of Stem, N.C. still has a fight on his hands for that division title as Mark Francisco of Halifax, Va. has cut Watkins’ lead to 18 points with two points races remaining. William Ridgeway of Burlington, N.C. is in third place, 30 points down to Francisco with six-time winner Joey Throckmorton of Scottsburg, Va. sitting in fourth place, 12 points behind Ridgeway. Quain Moore of Callands, Va. is in fifth place and trails Throckmorton by a narrow 12-point margin. The other division championship that is yet to be decided is the Southern Vintage Modified Division. Five-time winner Randy Smith of Bassett, Va. leads Rodney Cook of Reidsville, N.C. by eight points and Donnie Lacks of Lynchburg, Va. by 10 points as the door of opportunity remains open for all three drivers. The Southern Vintage Modified Division will not be in this weekend, but will be a part of the action on Saturday night, September 22 when South Boston Speedway holds its final points event of the season.
