Benson Declared Winner After Raymer Fails Tech Inspection At Caraway Speedway
Sep 3, 2007 - updated Sep 3rd, 2007 5:24pm

Asheboro, NC. --

September 1, 2007

Concord’s Brent Raymer was flagged the winner in the 100 Lap NASCAR Late Model feature event; however due to technical inspection of his shocks, Randy Benson of Rockingham was declared the winner. Benson and Nathan Buttke of Randleman passed technical inspection of their shocks. This is the second time Raymer has been Disqualified as a result of his shocks. Raymer fell back to third in track point standings behind leader Benson and Peter Hernandez of Blue Island, ILL. The official results are Benson, Buttke, Dan Moore of Bear Creek, Brianne Cronrath of Fleetwood,PA, Stephen Grimes of Siler City, Hernandez, Ryan Rhodes of Sanford, Pete Stewart of Archdale, Robert Tyler of Greensboro and Kris Bowen of Concord.
Benson currently has an 88 point lead over Hernandez. Raymer sits third 8 points shy of second. Stewart and Grimes round out the top five points contenders. With only five Late Model Stock events left, it will be tough to bump Benson from the top spot. Of course, there is always tech inspection to get through and competitors have the option to protest.

Benson is competing with a crate engine which has managed to be the hot topic among the competitors. Crates were given a 100 pound weight break recently, but due to the advantage the crates displayed the weight was taken back away. The engine builders were quite pleased with the added weight, but it seems a crate has managed to get to the top of the points chase. It will be interesting to watch the season unfold and intriguing to see if a built engine will protest Benson’s Crate which was refreshened and put back together since the track inspected after his last win. Two out of three of Benson’s wins have resulted from Raymer’s disqualifications.

In the 30 lap Sportsman event Daniel Schadt of Asheboro captured his first career win. Robbie Brewer of Winston Salem, Rich Hunter of Advance, Randy Martin of Peachland and AJ Lain of Archdale rounded out the top five finishers.

In the Mini Stock event Ronnie Kinney of Lexington took home the win. Tony Black of Lexington, Coy Beard of Lexington, John Davis of Lexington and Butch Oakley of Greensboro rounded out the top five finishers.

In the Custom Steel Fabricators Super Mini Truck event Ron Thayer of Seagrove took home the win. Alex Whatley of Thomasville, Scottie York of Asheboro, Glenn Chriscoe Jr of Randleman and Terry Owens of Randleman rounded out the top five finishers.

In the U-Car events Matt Ashby of Greensboro and Ray Forrest of Concord each captured a win.

Coming up this weekend we will a double header. On Friday, the 150 lap V6 Enduro will be back for lots of action. Also on hand will be the Late Model Super Trucks, 50 Lap Street Stock, Legends and U-Cars. On Saturday Night the open wheeled NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will take to the asphalt for 150 laps of action. Also on hand will be a 75 Lap NASCAR Late Model Stock event, Sportsman, Mini Stock, Super Mini Trucks, and Cab Cars. Grandstands open at 6pm and the racing gets under way at 8pm.
