Saluda --

Jamaica, VA - Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will return to action this Saturday, September 1st to host Round 4 of the Victory Lap Late Model $25,000 Challenge presented by BB&T. The night’s action will also feature the Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modifieds and New Generation Sprint Cars.

It’s a night full of high octane, hard chargin’, elbow’s up short track racing!

Roland Mann of Chaptico, MD, Neil McClanan of Moyock, NC and Brett Royal of Owings, MD have all claimed a victory in the four race series and all are eligible for a $5000 bonus should one of them be able to pull off the round four victory.

Looking to spoil their chances are current Victory Lap Late Model point leader Tom Cohick, 15 year old sensation Austin Hubbard, defending division champion Jared Powell, Walker Arthur, Donnie Marshall Jr. and a host of others.

The Victory Lap Late Model $25,000 Challenge presented by BB&T offers a bonus program for winning multiple races in the four race series. Pick up two wins and receive a $5000 bonus; win three of the four and the bonus goes to $15,000 and if someone could win all four, the bonus would be $25,000. Rules for the Victory Lap Late Models apply.

Competitor gates for Saturday, September 1st will open at 3pm with spectator gates opening at 4pm. Drivers meeting will be at 5:30pm and on track activities will begin at 6:15pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday, September 1st: Victory Lap Late Models (40 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (30 Laps); Budweiser Modifieds (25 Laps); and New Generation Racing Sprint Cars (25 Laps). Late Model, Sportsman, Modified and Sprint Car divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features only. B Mains will be run dependent on car count.

NEWS & NOTES:

CHAMPIONSHIP DAYS: The next two week’s of racing at Virginia Motor Speedway will be very important as all six divisions will crown there respective champions. Also on the line will be the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Championship and the $2000 prize that comes along with the title. Leading the charge for the overall title is New Generation Racing Sprint Car driver Craig Folmar of Phillipsburg, PA. In eight races Folmar has seven wins, following close behind is Charger driver Bob Terry of Stafford, VA with six wins. As in previous years it looks as if it will come down to the last week of racing.

FALL CLASSIC WEEKEND: Mark your calendars and make plans to attend the 38th Annual Fall, this year’s edition will once again follow a two day format and will be held September 22 – 23, 2007. On Friday September 22nd all six of the tracks divisions will run hot lap times trials and heat races. Saturday September 23rd’s schedule will showcase all the divisions in ‘B’ Mains and Features. The speedway has free camping available but with no hookups. More information will be released over the next couple of weeks.

MAKING NOISE: A couple of young guns have been making big noise in their respective divisions. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division 17 year old Kenny Moreland of Waldorf, MD came very close to picking up his first win of career this past weekend. Moreland was leading the race early when a flat tire caused him to have to go to pit road to have it changed. Moreland returned to the rear of the field and then drove his #24 Chevrolet Monte Carlo back to the front to challenge Roger Jamerson for the victory over the last ten laps of the 30 lap affair. Look for Moreland to make his first visit to victory lane very shortly.

In the Budweiser Modified division 15 year old Brandon Galloway of Gloucester, VA picked up his third win of the season in dramatic form. On the races final restart on lap 38 Galloway took his #36G Lightning Chassis to the high side to make it three wide back to the white flag for the lead. Galloway swept the outside of a three way battle for the lead to go from fourth to first and pick up his third victory of the season. With these two youngsters and the many others, the action at VMS is sure to be exciting for year’s to come.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track Affiliate, is a ½ mile dirt oval track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA.
