On August 11th The Brent Robinson Inc. (BRI) racing team made the trip west to the pristine Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, VA for the 14th Carolina Clash event of the season. The night started off with the team setting the 14th fastest time out of 25 competitors placing Brent mid pack for the 40 lap feature event. Brent immediately began moving up at the drop of the green flag as he found the bottom of the very racy surface to his liking. By the end of the race Brent had moved all the way up to the 4th position gaining some valuable points and strengthening his Rookie of the Year points lead.
“We didn’t qualify very well at Wythe but I knew we were going to be fast in the feature and we were. I think if we would have had a longer green flag run near the end we would have definitely been challenging for the win but the guys that were running the top were definitely faster than me for the first few laps after a restart. We still came home with a good finish at one of my favorite tracks though and I am really looking forward to going back in September.”
On August 17th the team would once again head west to compete at the brand new Rolling Thunder Raceway in Ararat, VA. Brent would set 2nd quickest time around the bullring placing him on the outside of the front row for the 30 lap feature event. Brent would fall into second place on the start but shortly after he would take the lead and begin to distance himself until he got into heavy lap traffic. Then with 4 laps to go Brent would lose the lead and come home with an impressive runner up finish.
“We were really good at the top of the track and when I went down bottom to get around lap traffic it really cost me because I could not run down there like the 33 car could. The track had a weight rule that really hurt us because we had an all aluminum motor that forced us to weigh almost 200 pounds more and on a small, flat, stop and go track like that it really hurt us.”
The following night, August 18th, the team would make the haul down to Toccoa, GA to compete in a $4,000 to win Carolina Clash event at the high banked Toccoa Speedway. Brent would start off the night well by timing 5th fastest placing him on the inside of the 3rd row for the 40 lap main event. Brent would move forward at the beginning of the race but faded near the end to an 8th place finish.
“Toccoa was a complicated track and in qualifying it was real tacky and it seemed like it was going to stay like that all night but after about 10 laps in to the feature it got slick and from then on I was just holding on hoping to come home with a top 10, and luckily we did.
This weekend The BRI racing team will compete in a pair of memorial events. The first one will be the “Grassy Smith Memorial” on August 24th at Thunder Valley Speedway in Lawndale, NC. This will be a $5,000 to win 40 lap event. The following night, August 25th, the team will be back in action at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, NC for the “Skyler Trull Memorial”. This race will be 57 laps and pay $10,000 to the winner. On Labor Day weekend the BRI racing team will compete at Harris Speedway in Harris, NC for a $4,000 to win Carolina Clash event on September 1st. The next night they will make the short haul to Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC for a $10,000 to win Southern All Stars East Event.
