USA 100 ON THE WAY: Put Saturday, August 18th on your schedule as VMS will host the MACS Super Late Models and Ernie Shelton’s 28th Annual USA 100™ presented by Thurston Spring Service, Inc. Last year’s race turned out to be the best race of the season, the expectation is that the 2007 edition will be even better. Special format will include two, $1000 to win qualifying races to make it into the $10,000 to win ‘A’ Main. Adult admission will be $22, senior (60+) and military $20, Students 13 to 17 years old $10, Children 7 to 17 $5 and children 6 and under free. WINLESS NO MORE: Davis Lipscombe of Mechanicsville, VA finally got his career first victory last Saturday night with a tremendous performance holding off both Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA and Roger Jamerson of Glen Allen, VA. In the process Lipscombe extended his point lead over to 43 points over Roger Jamerson (954) heading into this weekend’s action. Rounding out the top five in points are Tim Shelton (938), rookie Michael Roop (912) of Stafford, VA and rookie Robert Kramer (894) of Waldorf, MD.

PERFECTION: Craig Folmar of Philipsburg, PA is a perfect six for six in the New Generation Racing Sprint Car division yet Folmar only holds a 24 point advantage over Mary Anne Williams (593) of Chester, VA. Folmar will try to make it seven in a row Saturday night but will get to start no closer than eighth due to the tracks ‘two wins in a row’ rule. Rounding out the top five in points are leading Rookie Daren Bolac (564) of Moyock, NC, Michael Tolley (535) of Ashland, VA and Scott Davis (456) of Virginia Beach, VA.

MODIFIED RACE GETTING TIGHT: The only driver in the Budweiser Modified top five in points that didn’t have difficulties Saturday night was Mark Schools of Midlothian, VA. Schools went into last weekend third in points two behind Brian Maxey of King George, VA and 31 behind point leader Bret Hamilton of Powhatan, VA. Schools finished sixth while everyone else in the top five dropped out early with mechanical failures. Heading into this weekend’s action Hamilton’s lead is now only nine points over Schools (740). Rounding out the top five in points are Maxey (721), Brent Bordeaux (685) of Fredericksburg, VA and Page Harrison (677) of Jetersville, VA.

ROUGH WEEKEND FOR TERRY: Charger points leader Bob Terry of Stafford, VA experienced something this past Saturday he had been able to avoid all year… a DNF. Battling for the lead with father and son team James and Wesley Givens of New Kent, VA, Terry got help from J. Givens and spun sending him to the rear of the field. Terry’s night would get worse as he experienced mechanical issues while trying to race back to the front. Terry’s point lead went from 46 to 27 over John Kirby (668) of Sandston, VA. Rounding out the top five are James Givens (656), Chris Tatum (607) of Hanover, VA and Mark Wright (596) of Mechanicsville, VA.

FLETCHER FLYING HIGH: In his first full season in the All American division Kevin Fletcher of Saluda, VA is opening a bunch of eyes with his performance on the track. Fletcher added to his points lead and win total this past Saturday with a flawless run in the division’s 15 lap feature. Fletcher is not out of the woods yet, as defending champion Marty Coltrain of Richmond, VA is right on his heals also having a great run to finish second in last Saturday night’s main event. With the win Fletcher stretched out his lead over Coltrain (886) to 19 points. Rounding out the top five Stephen Childress (820) of St. Stephens Church, VA, Dustin Owens (814) of North, VA and Chris Woods (714) of Richmond, VA.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track affiliate, is a ½ mile dirt oval track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA.
