Barker, Falk, And Others Set For Sunoco 150
Aug 2, 2007 - updated Aug 2nd, 2007 9:33am
Web posted by

South Boston, VA. --

When the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division drivers last competed here at South Boston Speedway on July 21, points leader Adam Barker of Hurt, Va. and C.E. Falk of Virginia Beach, Va. gave fans the most thrilling finish they had seen in some time at the .4-mile oval.

Barker and Falk were side-by-side coming to the checkered flag on the final lap and made contact as they raced to the finish line. As they hit the finish line, they made contact again and both cars went spinning into the first turn and crashed into the wall. Division point leader Barker got the win by a nose, giving him his ninth win of the season here. Falk, who had led all but the final lap, had to settle for second place. Neither driver was happy afterward and both left the track with some ill feelings and torn up race cars. After having had an off week to repair their cars and cool down their emotions, Barker, Falk and the rest of the competitors will return to South Boston Speedway Saturday night, August 4, for the Sunoco 150 racing program.

Saturday night’s Sunoco 150 racing program will feature five races with a 150-lap race for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division being the night’s featured event. The 150-lap NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division race will be the first time since the July 21 incident that the two drivers will be competing in the same race. And, it will be interesting to see if there will be more fireworks between the two highly talented young drivers when they take to the track Saturday night. In addition to the 150-lap race for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division, Saturday night’s Sunoco 150 racing program will include races for the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division, the regional touring Southern Vintage Modifieds and the INEX Legends Cars Series. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. with the track’s Early Bird Special in effect. Adult admission will be $8 for adults until 6:30 p.m. and $10 after that. Youths ages 10-15 will be admitted for $5. Kids ages nine and under will be admitted free. Barker appears to have things well in hand as far as the battle for the points championship in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division is concerned. With six races remaining in South Boston Speedway’s points season, Barker holds a hefty 54-point lead over Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. with C.E. Falk of Virginia Beach, Va. sitting in third place, 70 points behind Ramsey. There is, however a close battle in the bottom half of the top five as Falk stands only four points ahead of Eddie Johnson of Midlothian and six points ahead of fifth-place David Triplett Jr. of Timberlake, N.C.

Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va. holds a 58-point lead over Danny Willis Jr, of Cluster Springs, Va. in the Limited Sportsman Division standings. Brian Pembleton of Amelia, Va. is in third place, four points behind Willis. Terri Marks of Capron, Va., who drives the Chevrolets maintained by the students and instructors of the Halifax County Motorsports Academy, is in fourth place, two points ahead of fifth-place Timmy Langford of Amelia, Va.

Points races are tight in both the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the Southern Vintage Modified Division heading into the Sunoco 150. Budweiser Pure Stock Division points leader Chuck Watkins of Stem, N.C. holds a 26-point lead over Mark Francisco of Halifax, Va. Francisco’s margin over third-place driver William Ridgeway of Burlington, N.C. is just four points. Quain Moore of Callands, Va. sits in fourth place, 10 points ahead of Jarrett Milam of Ringgold, Va. In the Southern Vintage Modified Division, which will be returning to action at South Boston Speedway for the first time since late June, Rodney Cook of Reidsville, N.C. holds a slim six-point edge over Donnie Lacks and Randy Smith. Ricky Seay and Darryl Lacks round out the top five in the standings.
