Although the drivers and their cars filed into the track last Friday night, we all seemed to know that the storm was on the way to take the checkered flag. Shortly after the drivers meeting, track officials decided that the light show was getting too close. As the sky started to darken and the lightning was streaking all around the 1/4 mile bullring the decision was made to cancel. Shortly thereafter, a steady rain came which continued most of the evening.
This coming Friday night, August 3rd I have re-scheduled The Advance Auto Parts Stores 4th Annual Bike Races which were also cancelled due to the rain. All bike riders are required to wear helmet. Trophies to the top 5 in each age group, goody bags, certificates and free snowballs will be provided to all bike races.
The Big money race for the UCARS will be on tap for August 3rd, with Walls Roofing sponsoring that event. I'm sure if you read Racerap, Larry has all the details posted concerning that event. There were several new drivers at the track to practice for the big event, but never got to practice.
Just a reminder to all the drivers, August 3rd will be double points in ALL divisions with a regular racing program. It's all about the points and the big trophy at the end of the racing season. Some upsets could happen with a double points race as we have seen many times in the past.
Saturday, July 28, there was a Wake County Speedway car show at The Cleveland Draft House and it was well represented by several drivers, their cars and family members and WCS staff. Thanks to all that attended, we really got alot of great exposure and I feel like we got the attention of some future fans. Thanks again everyone and a special thanks to Capps Motorsports for setting up a great day of free advertising for the drivers and the track! YEAH!
I'd like to announce that the smallest Simpkins is now at home and both Mama & baby are doing great. Congrats to Curtis & Leslie Simpkins as we welcome baby, Lacy Barbara Ann Simpkins to Simpkinsville.
Remember that Wake County Speedway is a Friday night adventure for the entire family and the best kept secret in Raleigh. Try to invite someone that's never been before and show them what they have been missing out on every Friday night. Gates open at 6PM and racing starts at 8PM. Bike racers need to be at the track to register by 8:15pm. Please bring all bikes into the grandstand area by the picnic tables for registration. And as always, I hope to see you at the races!
