Fords Making Presence Felt At South Boston Speedway
Jul 20, 2007 - updated Jul 20th, 2007 11:07pm
Web posted by

South Boston, VA --

Adam Barker has had pretty much the run of South
Boston Speedway this season.
Barker, from Hurt, Va., has won eight of the 11 races run to date in
the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division and has been a factor in
all 11 races.
Last week, however, there was a new face in Victory Lane at South
Boston Speedway. Greg Edwards of Poquoson, Va. drove a Ford Fusion
owned by Ted Daves to a 12-plus second win in the150-lap NASCAR Late
Model Stock Car Division race, giving Ford fans something to cheer
about.
“I’ve been wanting to win at this place and beat Adam and this
competition,” Edwards said after the win that netted him his first-
ever victory at South Boston Speedway.
“You know you’ve really done something when you come into these
guys’ back yard and win a race.”
Of the three races that Barker has not won this season, two have been
won by Fords. Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. won the season opener at
South Boston Speedway in a Ford and has been among the front-runners
all season.
Will the Fords get back to the top of the leader board again this week?
Fans and competitors alike will find out soon enough as they gear up
for Saturday night’s Italian Delight 150 racing program at South
Boston Speedway.
Saturday night’s Italian Delight 150 racing program will get the
green flag at 7 p.m. and will feature a five-race card headlined by a
150-lap race for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division.
Along with the 150-lap Late Model Stock Car Division race, Saturday
night’s program will include races for the Limited Sportsman
Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division, the Grand Stock Division
and the INEX Legends Cars Series.
Saturday’s race-day schedule calls for registration to start and pit
gates to open at 1 p.m. Practice will start at 2:15 p.m. and will
continue until 3:45 p.m. Grandstand gates will open and ticket sales
will begin at 5 p.m.
Qualifying time trials will start at 5:15 p.m. and the first race of
the night will get the green flag at 7 p.m.
South Boston Speedway’s Early Bird Special will be in effect with
adult general admission tickets being $8 until 6:30 p.m. and $10
after that. Youths ages 10-15 will be admitted for $5 and kids ages
nine and under will b admitted free with a paid adult.
Barker, who was forced to retire early from last week’s race due to
mechanical problems and finished 10th in the race, enters this
weekend’s action with a 50-point edge over Ramsey in the division
point’s standings.
Eddie Johnson of Midlothian, Va., last week’s second-place finisher,
is in third place in the points standings, 46 points down to Ramsey.
Johnson stands six points ahead of David Triplett Jr. of Timberlake,
N.C. and C.E. Falk III of Virginia Beach, Va. who are tied for fourth
place in the standings.
Defending Limited Sportsman Division champion Bruce Anderson of South
Boston, Va. continues to hold the top spot in the Limited Sportsman
Division points standings and is 42 points up on Danny Willis Jr. of
Cluster Springs, Va.
In what is the most competitive points race ongoing at South Boston
Speedway, defending Budweiser Pure Stock Division champion Chuck
Watkins of Stem, N.C. leads William Ridgeway of Burlington, N.C by 20
points entering this weekend’s action.
