Hampton, Va --

Update: Mods return to action this Saturday Wednesday, July 18, 2007

The B&C Seafood Modifieds will return from a month-long hiatus this Saturday, July 21, when Langley Speedway plays host to DuctWorx/Kenny’s Plumbing Night at the Races, the 14th event on the track’s 2007 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series calendar.
Saturday’s feature lineup includes: Crossroads Fuel Service Late Models (75 laps); B&C Seafood Modifieds (50 laps); Med Express Urgent Care Super Streets (50 laps); Cook’s Moving Service Super Trucks (25 laps); and Wolf Contractors Wolf Trucks (25 laps).
Gates open at 1 p.m. Afternoon practice rounds get under way at 2, followed by a drivers meeting at 4:15 and time trials at 4:30. At 6:30, fans will be welcomed into the infield pit area to get an up-close look at the cars, meet the drivers, snap photos, collect autographs, etc. The first feature race begins at 7.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. “Little Race Fans” (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Military members in uniform are also admitted free. Military members in civvies (active-duty or retired, with ID) and senior citizens (60+, with ID) receive a $2 discount off the regular adult ticket price. “Family Packs,” which include two adult and two children’s tickets, are $25 — a savings of $5.
• • •
The Speedway will hold its regular, weekly “test and tune” session on Thursday, July 19. Gates open at 5 p.m. and practice begins at 6.
Pit admission is $10 with a valid NASCAR, INEX, HRKC or Langley Speedway license and $20 without a current competition license. There is no charge to watch from the grandstands.
Summaries of Thursday evening practice sessions (as well as other events) are available on the track’s Web site, www.langley-speedway.com. In the menu on the homepage, click on “Results,” then follow the appropriate links. Practice results are posted shortly after the end of each week’s session.

The Speedway’s “Wild Wacky Wednesday” schedule continues this evening. The program includes “Time Attacks” (solo runs against the clock), 1-on-1 drag races (for one lap around the track) and a burnout competition.
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the fun begins at 7. Tickets are just $5 for adults and kids (6-12). Children under 6 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes for competitors are $15.

Philip Morris of Motor Mile Speedway in Radford and Langley regulars Greg and Danny Edwards retained the top three spots in NASCAR’s latest Virginia state championship standings. Morris, the defending national champ, is 50 points ahead of Greg Edwards, 512-462. Danny Edwards, with 438 points, trails his brother by 24.
Mark Wertz has moved up one position from last week and now ranks sixth with 384 points. Shawn Balluzzo, meanwhile, has slipped into the 10th spot with 346.
In the national rankings, Guy Jubinville of Autodrome St. Eustache in St. Eustache, Quebec, Canada, maintained the #1 position, followed by Woody Pitkat of Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford Springs, Conn. Jamey Caudill of Southern National Raceway Park in Kenly, N.C., is third.
Langley representatives among the national top 500 include: Greg Edwards (44th), Danny Edwards (50th), Mark Wertz (78th), Shawn Balluzzo (112th), Jeff Shiflett (143rd), Dean Shiflett (267th), Jeff Sampson (284th), Anthony Warren (296th), Craig Eastep (383rd) and Ross Clements (478th).

Greg Edwards, who has been dividing his time between Langley and South Boston Speedway this season, scorched the SoBo Late Model Stock Car field to post his first win there in last Saturday’s 150-lap feature. At the finish, he was a whopping 12.946 seconds ahead of runner-up Eddie Johnson.
• • •
As the winner of the last two Wolf Truck events, Jeff Sampson can start this Saturday’s 25-lapper from no better than the eighth position (or last if the field includes fewer than eight trucks).
• • •
NASCAR action continues at Langley Speedway on Saturday, July 28, with Hampton Chevrolet/Law Enforcement Night. That evening’s slate includes a 100-lap Late Model race, plus Dunkum’s Machine Shop/Super 8 Motels Grand Stocks, Peninsula Hardwood Mulch INEX Legends, E-Z Auto Rental UCARs and the Pro 6 Series.

A longtime member of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, Langley Speedway is a .395-mile, slightly-banked oval. The track is located at 11 Dale Lemonds Dr., off North Armistead Ave., in Hampton, Va.
