Langley Speedway - Hampton, VA: 2nd half of '07 season to begin on Saturday

NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at Langley Speedway

Langley Speedway begins the second half of its 2007 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series schedule this Saturday, July 14, when the track plays host to Allstate/Little GI Joe’s Night at the Races.
This weekend’s lineup includes: Crossroads Fuel Service Late Models (75 laps); Dunkum’s Machine Shop/Super 8 Motels Grand Stocks (40 laps); Peninsula Hardwood Mulch INEX Legends (25 laps); E-Z Auto Rental UCARs (25 laps); and, Kim Jusino, Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts (20 laps).
Gates open at 1 p.m. and afternoon practice rounds start at 2. The drivers meeting is slated for 4:15, followed by time trials at 4:30. Pre-race activities get under way at 6:50 and the first feature contest gets the green flag at 7.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. “Little Race Fans” (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Military members in uniform are also admitted free. Military members in civvies (active-duty or retired, with ID) and senior citizens (60+, with ID) receive a $2 discount off the regular adult ticket price. “Family Packs,” which include two adult and two children’s tickets, are $25 — a savings of $5.

The Speedway will hold its regular, weekly “test and tune” session on Thursday, July 12. Gates open at 5 p.m. and practice begins at 6.
Pit admission is $10 with a valid NASCAR, INEX, HRKC or Langley Speedway license and $20 without a current competition license. There is no charge to watch from the grandstands.
Summaries of Thursday evening practice sessions (as well as other events) are available on the track’s Web site, www.langley-speedway.com. In the menu on the homepage, click on “Results,” then follow the appropriate links. Practice results are posted shortly after the end of each week’s session.

After taking off for the Fourth of July, Langley Speedway’s “Wild Wacky Wednesday” schedule resumes tonight. The program includes “Time Attacks” (solo runs against the clock), 1-on-1 drag races (for one lap around the track) and a burnout competition.
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the fun begins at 7. Tickets are just $5 for adults and kids (6-12). Children under 6 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes for competitors are $15.

Philip Morris of Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va., and Langley veterans Greg and Danny Edwards held onto the top three positions in NASCAR’s latest Virginia state championship standings. Morris, the defending national champ, leads Greg Edwards by 24 points in the current rundown, 462-438. Danny Edwards is 38 behind his brother, with 400. Langley’s third representative in the top 10, Mark Wertz, moved up one spot to seventh.
In the national standings, Canadian Guy Jubinville of Autodrome St. Eustache in St. Eustache, Quebec, has returned to the #1 position, while Woody Pitkat of Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford Springs, Conn., leaped from fifth to second.
Langley regulars in the national top 500 include: Greg Edwards (38th), Danny Edwards (51st), Wertz (84th), Shawn Balluzzo (111th), Jeff Shiflett (154th), Dean Shiflett (294th), Jeff Sampson (312th), Anthony Warren (349th), Craig Eastep (418th) and Mark Claar (496th).
• • •
Due to production and availability issues with the Goodyear tires currently being used by several of Langley’s weekly divisions, the track will be switching over to American Racer brand tires, formerly known as McCreary. The new tires will be phased in over the next few weeks to give teams a chance to use up their existing supplies of Goodyears.

Randy Sample put an end to Kevin Alves’ season-opening, five-race winning streak in the UCAR division on June 23, then backed up that victory with another one on June 30. By track rules, since he’s won two in a row, Sample can start this Saturday’s UCAR 25-lapper from no better than the outside of Row 4.

Prior to last weekend’s Late Model race, it was announced that the bonus payoff for the first non-Dodge driver to score a victory had grown from $1,000 to $1,300. To date, Mopar pilots Danny and Greg Edwards and Mark Wertz have combined to win all 12 Late Model features, leading all 975 laps along the way.
• • •
NASCAR racing action continues at Langley Speedway on Saturday, July 21, when the track hosts DuctWorx/Kenny’s Plumbing Night. That evening’s feature slate includes: Late Models, B&C Seafood Modifieds, Med Express Urgent Care Super Streets, Cook’s Moving Service Super Trucks and Wolf Contractors Wolf Trucks.

A longtime member of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, Langley Speedway is a .395-mile, slightly-banked oval. The track is located at 11 Dale Lemonds Dr., off North Armistead Ave., in Hampton, Va.
To learn more about Langley Speedway and its 2007 schedule of events, fans may call the Speedway office at (757) 865-RACE or consult the track’s Web site — www.langley-speedway.com.
