Embarq 150 Up Next At South Boston Speedway

After a break of more than a week, NASCAR racing will return to South Boston Speedway Saturday night, June 14 with the running of the Embarq 150 racing program.

The four race card will feature the track’s three top racing divisions with racing set too get underway at 7 p.m.

A 150-lap race for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division will highlight he Embarq 150 racing program. Races for the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the regional touring Legendary Ford Flatheads Racing Association are also included on the schedule.

The race day schedule calls for pit gates open at 1 p.m. Practice will go from 2:15 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Qualifying time trials start at 5:15 p.m. and the first race will start at 7 p.m.

Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. with the track’s Early Bird special admission of $8 for adults in effect until 6:30 p.m. Adult admission after that will be $10. Youth’s ages 10-15 will be admitted for $5. Kids ages 9 and under will be admitted free.

Adam Barker of Hurt, Va. enters the 150-lap race for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division as the driver to beat. Barker started on the pole and led all 200 laps enroot to winning the 200-lap race here on July 3 against the best field of cars assembled here to date this season.

The win, Barker’s eighth triumph in his 10 starts here, allowed him to extend his lead in the division point’s race. Barker will bring a 62-point lead over Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. into the Embarq 150.

David Triplett Jr. of Timberlake, N.C. has moved into third place in the points chase and stands 30 points behind Ramsey. C.E. Falk III of Virginia Beach, Va. is in fourth place, six points behind Triplett and veteran Eddie Johnson of Midlothian, Va. rounds out the top five, standing eight points behind Falk.

Defending Limited Sportsman Division champion Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va. continues to lead the Limited Sportsman Division standings and will bring a 40-point lead over Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va. into the upcoming event.

Brian Pembleton of Amelia, Va. is in third place, 12 points behind Willis with Timmy Langford of Amelia, Va. and Wesley Falk of Virginia Beach, Va. rounding out the top five in the point’s standings.

Despite a tough night on July 3 on which he finished 15th, defending Budweiser Pure Stock Division champion Chuck Watkins of Stem, N.C. continues to hold the top spot in the division points race.

Watkins will enter the Embarq 150 racing program with a 16-point lead over William Ridgeway of Burlington, N.C. Mark Francisco of Halifax, Va. is third in the points standings, four points behind Ridgeway with Ringgold, Va. residents Jarrett Milam and Chris Seay, standing fourth and fifth respectively.
