Bailey’s 200 Will Offer Fireworks On And Off The Track
Jun 29, 2007 - updated Jun 29th, 2007 6:30pm
Web posted by

South Boston, VA. --

Fireworks in the sky and fireworks on the racetrack. What better way is there to celebrate the Fourth of July? For a racing fan - none.

Racing fans will get the opportunity to kick off their Fourth of July celebration a little early as South Boston Speedway will celebrate the Fourth of July with the running of the Bailey’s 200 on Tuesday night, July 3 at a special 8 p.m. starting time. Tuesday night’s Bailey’s 200 racing program is one of South Boston Speedway’s biggest events of the season, with the track’s Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division drivers competing in a 200-lap race that will pay $5,000 to the winner. With a good handful of the region’s top NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division competitors expected to be on hand, there should be plenty of fireworks on the racetrack as they battle it out for their share for one of the season’s biggest purses.

The big 200-lap NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division race is just a part of the big night of racing scheduled on the Bailey’s 200 card. Track officials have also set a 100-lap race for the Limited Sportsman division competitors, a 75-lap race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and a 50-lap race for the drivers and teams in the INEX Legends Cars Series. In addition, the fast winged MACKA Karts will be on hand for what will be their second visit of the season to South Boston Speedway. There will also be plenty of fireworks in the sky as South Boston Speedway officials have plans underway for one of the area’s biggest and most dazzling fireworks displays after the racing action has concluded.

Advance tickets are on sale through 5 p.m. Monday, July 2 at $10 each for adults. Tickets at the gate on race night will be $15 each. Youth ages 10-15 will be admitted for $10 and kids ages nine and under will be admitted free with a paid adult. Along with the big night of racing and the spectacular fireworks displays, racing fans attending Tuesday night’s Bailey’s 200 have another treat in store - a visit by former South Boston Speedway

NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division champion Stacy Compton of Hurt, Va. Compton, who has enjoyed a successful career competing in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and is now also a part of the ESPN television team, will meet fans and sign autographs during the track’s Fan Appreciation event which will be held from 7 p.m. until 7:40 p.m. on the front stretch of the racetrack. In addition, Compton will be available to sign copies of South Boston Speedway’s 50th anniversary book which will be on sale at the speedway on race night at a price of $15 each. Tuesday’s race day schedule calls for pit gates to open at 1:30 p.m. Practice will go from 3:15 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. Qualifying time trials will start at 5:30 p.m. and the Fan Appreciation event, an event in which fans will be able to go onto the track and meet the drivers and see the cars competing in the Bailey’s 200 racing program, starting at 7 p.m. The first race of the night will start at 8 p.m.

As far as the racing goes, Adam barker of Hurt, Va., who has won seven of the nine NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division races run thus far at South Boston Speedway, enters the 200-lap Late Model Stock Car Division race as the track points leader. Barker holds a hefty 52-point lead over Ford driver Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. Eddie Johnson of Midlothian, Va. is in third place, 26 points behind Ramsey with David Triplett Jr. of Timberlake, N.C. and 19-year-old C.E. Falk III of Virginia Beach, Va. rounding out the top five in the points standings. Ramsey and Falk, with one win each, are the only drivers other than Barker to have won a race in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division this season.

Defending Limited Sportsman Division champion Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va., who has won the last three races and has won eight of the 10 races run in the division this season, is the division points leader entering the Bailey’s 200. Anderson holds a 40-point lead over Brian Pembleton of Amelia, Va. with Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va. sitting in third place, two points behind Pembleton. Willis, with two wins, is the only driver other than Anderson to post a win in the Limited Sportsman Division this season. Defending Budweiser Pure Stock Division champion Chuck Watkins of Stem, N.C. continues to the lead the points standings in that division heading into Tuesday night’s Bailey’s 200 racing program. Watkins holds a 32-point lead over William Ridgeway of Burlington, N.C. with Mark Francisco of Halifax, Va. sitting in third place, 10 points behind Ridgeway. Jarrett Milam and Chris Seay, both of Ringgold, Va., are fourth and fifth in the points standings respectively.
