Langley Speedway News
Fireworks, hot racing action on tap for Saturday night

Hampton, VA --

NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at Langley Speedway -

Update: Wednesday, June 27, 2007

Langley Speedway gets a head start on the upcoming Independence Day holiday this Saturday, June 30, when the track plays host to Miss Utility Night, the 11th event on its 2007 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series calendar.
Saturday’s feature lineup includes: Crossroads Fuel Service Late Models (75 laps); Peninsula Hardwood Mulch INEX Legends (25 laps); E-Z Auto Rental UCARs (25 laps); Wolf Contractors Wolf Trucks (25 laps); and, Kim Jusino, Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts (20 laps).
Also, in keeping with the holiday spirit, fans will be treated to a breathtaking fireworks extravaganza, sponsored by Crossroads Cleaners and B&C Seafood.
Gates open at 1 p.m. and afternoon practice rounds get under way at 2. A drivers meeting is slated for 4:15, followed by time trials at 4:30. Pre-race festivities begin at 6:50 and the green flag waves over the first feature event at 7.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. “Little Race Fans” (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Military members in uniform are also admitted free. Military members in civvies (active-duty or retired, with ID) and senior citizens (60+, with ID) receive a $2 discount off the regular adult ticket price. “Family Packs,” which include two adult and two children’s tickets, are $25 — a savings of $5.
• • •
The Speedway will hold its regular, weekly “test and tune” session on Thursday, June 28. Gates open at 5 p.m. and practice begins at 6.
Pit admission is $10 with a valid NASCAR, INEX, HRKC or Langley Speedway license and $20 without a current competition license. There is no charge to watch from the grandstands.
Summaries of Thursday evening practice sessions (as well as other events) are available on the track’s Web site, www.langley-speedway.com. In the menu on the homepage, click on “Results,” then follow the appropriate links. Practice results are posted shortly after the end of each week’s session.
• • •
The Speedway’s “Wild Wacky Wednesdays” schedule continues tonight. The program includes “Time Attacks” (solo runs against the clock), 1-on-1 drag races (for one lap around the track) and a burnout competition.
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the fun begins at 7. Tickets are just $5 for adults and kids (6-12). Children under 6 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes for competitors are $15.
The series will take a night off on July 4 and action will resume on July 11.

After a third-place outing last Saturday night at South Boston Speedway, Greg Edwards remained in second place in NASCAR’s latest Virginia state point standings. He trails defending national champ Philip Morris of Motor Mile Speedway in Radford by 20 points, 384-364. Morris was the runner-up in last weekend’s SoBo race.
Danny Edwards is fifth in the state rundown, 66 points behind Morris, while Mark Wertz has crept back into the 10th position with 270 points.
In the national Top 500 rankings, Guy Jubinville of Autodrome St. Eustache in Quebec, Canada, kept the top spot for another week. Jamey Caudill of Southern National Raceway Park is second, followed by Rodney Cook of Ace Speedway.
Greg Edwards is 39th in the national standings. Other Langley regulars in the Top 500 are: Danny Edwards (69th), Wertz (114th), Shawn Balluzzo (137th), Jeff Shiflett (192nd), Anthony Warren (343rd), Jeff Sampson (356th), Dean Shiflett (365th) and Craig Eastep (468th).
• • •
Former Langley Legends standout C.E. Falk picked up the victory in last Saturday’s Late Model Stock Car race at South Boston, halting Adam Barker’s seven-race winning streak and claiming a $1,000 bounty. Barker ended up fourth, behind Falk, Morris and Greg Edwards.
• • •
Like Barker, Kevin Alves and Jeff Sampson saw their lengthy winning streaks come to an end last Saturday night. Alves and Sampson will try to begin new streaks in this weekend’s UCAR and Wolf Truck races, respectively.
• • •
The $1,000 bounty that was posted several weeks back to the first non-Mopar Late Model driver to tame Langley’s runaway Dodges is still collecting interest. With Danny Edwards’ flag-to-flag run in last Saturday’s 100-lapper, Dodge products have now won 10 of 10 races and led 825 of 825 laps.
• • •
Armed with a Butch Britt-owned Chevrolet, Casey Wyatt, a six-time Late Model race winner in 2006, is expected to take aim at the bounty this Saturday night. He’ll be teaming up with Late Model rookie Dean Shiflett, a two-time Grand Stock champ.
Phil Warren, the seven-time Langley track champion, is also slated to be in the starting field this weekend, driving a James and Mary Lou Long-owned Chevy.
• • •
Former Langley Late Model and Legends star Woody Howard, now a standout on the USAR Hooters Pro Cup circuit, is expected to be wheeling a Robert Hopper-owned machine in this weekend’s INEX Legends feature.
• • •
Four INEX Legends and four HRKC Pro Winged Champ Kart races at Langley Speedway this year have produced eight different winners.
• • •
NASCAR action continues at Langley Speedway on Saturday, July 7, with Toyota Night at the Races. That evening’s lineup includes: Late Models, Dunkum’s Machine Shop/Super 8 Motels Grand Stocks, Med Express Urgent Care Super Streets, Cook’s Moving Service Super Trucks and Wolf Trucks.
• • •
A longtime member of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, Langley Speedway is a .395-mile, slightly-banked oval. The track is located at 11 Dale Lemonds Dr., off North Armistead Ave., in Hampton, Va.
To learn more about Langley Speedway and its 2007 schedule of events, fans may call the Speedway office at (757) 865-RACE or consult the track’s Web site — www.langley-speedway.com.
