South Boston Speedway Celebrates Independence Day With July 3 Running Of Bailey’S 200

South Boston Speedway will celebrate Independence Day in big fashion with the running of the Bailey’s 200 on Tuesday night, July 3.
The Bailey’s 200, which will have a special 8 p.m. starting time, will be a four race card highlighted by a 200-lap race for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division which will pay $5,000 to the winner.

Tuesday night’s action will also include a special 100-lap race for the Limited Sportsman Division, a big 75-lap race for the drivers in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and a 50-lap race for the INEX Legends Cars Series. The fast winged MACKA Karts will also compete as part of Tuesday night’s program.

Following the night’s racing action, South Boston Speedway will present a colorful and dazzling Fourth of July fireworks display.
In addition, former South Boston Speedway NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division champion Stacy Compton, who has gone on to compete in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, will be on hand for the evening.
Compton will meet fans and sign autographs during the track’s Fan Appreciation event which will take place from 7 p.m. until 7:40 p.m. The former South Boston Speedway champion will also sign copies of South Boston Speedway’s 50th anniversary book which will be on sale Tuesday night for $15 each.

Advance tickets for the Bailey’s 200 are available for $10 each with advance tickets being sold until Monday, July 2 at 5 p.m.
Grandstand gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with tickets at the gate on Tuesday night, July 3 priced at $15 each for adults and $10 each for youths ages 10-15. Kids ages nine and under will be admitted free with a paid adult.
The race day schedule calls for pit gates to open at 1:30 p.m., with practice going from 3:15 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. Qualifying time trials will start at 5:30 p.m. and the track’s Fan Appreciation event will run from 7 p.m. until 7:40 p.m. The first race gets the green flag at 8 p.m.

Some of the region’s top NASCAR Late Model Stock Division drivers are expected to come in and challenge South Boston Speedway’s regulars for the $5,000 first prize being offered in the 200-lap Late Model Stock Car Division race.
In doing so, they will be facing a tough task, particularly when it comes to trying to outrun Adam Barker of Hurt, Va.
Nineteen-year-old C.E. Falk III of Virginia Beach, Va. did it last week, winning the track’s 150-lap NASCAR Late Model Stock car Division race to snap Barker’s consecutive win streak at seven races in a row.
Barker, who has won seven of the nine Late Model Stock Car Division races run at the track this season, still extended his points lead last week and leads Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. by 52 points entering Tuesday night’s event. Ramsey, who drives a Ford, is the only other driver to have scored a win in the Late Model Stock Car Division.

Defending Limited Sportsman Division champion and current division points leader Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va. appears to be the early favorite entering Tuesday night’s 100-lap Limited Sportsman Division race.
Anderson has won the last three races in a row and has won five of the division’s last six races. He will face tough competition from Brian Pembleton of Amelia, Va. who has reeled off eight straight top-three finishes and from Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va. who has two wins and is the only other driver in the division that has picked up a win this season.
The competition should be exciting in the 75-lap Budweiser Pure Stock Division race as there have been five different winners in the 10 races that have been run in the division this season.

Defending division champion Chuck Watkins of Stem, N.C. is the division points leader entering the July 3 event. Watkins, with three wins, leads William Ridgeway of Burlington, N.C. by 32 points entering the upcoming event.
