Barker Again Puts Win Streak On The Line At SBS
Jun 20, 2007 - updated Jun 20th, 2007 7:26pm
Web posted by

South Boston, VA. --

A couple of weeks ago some of the region’s top NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division drivers came to South Boston Speedway to try to snap Adam Barker’s lengthy win streak and collect a $1,000 bounty.
Barker responded by outrunning his challengers and scoring an unprecedented seventh consecutive win.
The question people are asking now is can Barker do it again and, more importantly, can he do it with that same $1,000 bounty and the tough competition that is a tradition at South Boston Speedway staring him in the face.

The answer will come in a short time as NASCAR racing action returns to South Boston Speedway Saturday night, June 23, with the running of the Whelen 150 Presented by Charles Anderson Lawn Care.
Action will begin at 7 p.m. with a 150-lap race for the Late Model Stock Car Division headlining the night’s five-race program. It is in that race that Barker will be looking to extend his track-record seven straight wins to what would be a record eighth straight win.
While Barker has dominated the win column in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division, it wasn’t until the last event on June 9 that Barker broke open the division points race.
His closest challenger, Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va., was within eight points of Barker entering the June 9 event. However, Ramsey was forced to the sidelines early when something on his Ford broke and was left with an 18th-place finish.

As a result, Barker leads Ramsey by a 42-point margin entering Saturday night’s 150-lap race with veteran driver Eddie Johnson of Midlothian, Va. sitting in third place, 30 points down to Barker.
Along with the 150-lap Late Model Stock Car Division race, fans will see the drivers and teams in the track’s Limited Sportsman division face each other in a twin-race event. There will also be a race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division with the drivers and teams of the regional touring Southern Vintage Modifieds competing as well.
Defending division champion, Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va., with six race wins and five pole wins in the eight races, will bring a 30-point lead over Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va. into Saturday night’s twinbill. Brian Pembleton of Amelia, Va. is in third place in the points standings, just four points behind Willis.
Chuck Watkins of Stem, N.C., last year’s Budweiser Pure Stock Division champion, enters Saturday night’s event for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division with three race wins and two pole wins in his nine starts.
Watkins enters this weekend’s action with a 44-point lead over William Ridgeway of Burlington, N.C. with Mark Francisco of Halifax, Va. sitting in third place, 16 points behind Ridgeway.
The ground-pounding Southern Vintage Modifieds will return to action at South Boston Speedway Saturday night following a brief hiatus. Rodney Cook of Reidsville, N.C., with his division-leading two wins, leads Donnie Lacks of Lynchburg by eight points in the division points standings entering Saturday night’s event with Randy Smith of Bassett, Va. sitting in third place, two points behind Lacks.

South Boston Speedway’s gates will open Saturday at 5 p.m., qualifying starts at 5:15 p.m. and the first race will start at 7 p.m.
South Boston Speedway will continue its Early Bird Special with admission being $8 for adults up until 6:30 p.m. and $10 after that. Youths ages 10-15 will be admitted for $5. Kids ages 9 and under will be admitted free with a paid adult.
