South Boston Speedway News
NASCAR Busch East Series Coming To South Boston Speedway Saturday, June 2
May 28, 2007 - updated May 28th, 2007 3:23pm
Web posted by

South Boston, VA. --

South Boston Speedway has had a storied history with the NASCAR Busch Series. That history will take on another chapter Saturday night, June 2, as the NASCAR Grand National Division Busch East Series makes its first visit to South Boston Speedway for the South Boston 150.
Saturday night’s South Boston 150, which will pit the stars and cars of the NASCAR Grand National Division Busch East Series against each other in a 150-lap, 60-mile event, will get the green flag at 7:30 p.m.
Advance tickets for the South Boston 150 are priced at $15 for adults and may bee purchased until 5 p.m. Friday, June 2. Advance tickets may be ordered by calling the speedway at 434-572-4947 or toll free at 1-877-440-1540. Tickets will be available at the speedway office from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day through Friday.
Tickets on race day will be $20 for adults and $10 for youths ages 10-15. Kids ages 9 and under will be admitted free with a paid adult.
In addition to the South Boston 150 Busch East Series race, there will be a 110-lap race for South Boston Speedway’s Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division and a race for the MACKA karts.
Saturday’s schedule has Busch East Series practice going from 12 noon until 2 p.m. with Late Model Stock Car Division practice set from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m.
Grandstand gates will open and ticket sales will start at 3 p.m. with qualifying time trials for the Late Model Stock Car Division starting at 3:30 p.m. and Busch East Series qualifying starting at 4:30 p.m.
Fan Appreciation, a time during which fans can go down onto the track and see the cars and meet the drivers, will run from 5:45 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. Pre-race activities will start at 7 p.m. and the South Boston 150 will get the green flag at 7:30 p.m.
The South Boston 150 will be the fourth NASCAR Grand National Division Busch East Series event of the season and will be the third consecutive inaugural appearance of the series at a track this season.
Among the top drivers that have filed entries for Saturday night’s $112,234 South Boston 150 are 2001 and 2006 Busch East Series champion Mike Olsen of No. Haverhill, N.J. who drives for his family-owned operation, Matt Kobyluck of Uncasville, CT who won last year’s NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown and has competed in the Busch East Series since 1999 and 21-year-old Sean Caisse of Harrisburg, NC who was the 2005 Rookie of the Year in the Busch East Series and last season’s series runner-up.
Also entered is Joey Logano, a 16-year-old from Concord, N.C. who is a developmental driver for Joe Gibbs Racing. Logano has had a hot hand, having won four races, one pole, qualified second fastest twice and fourth once in a brief 31-day span.
The entry list for the South Boston 150 also has a strong local flavor to it as Peyton Sellers of Danville, VA, the 2005 South Boston Speedway NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division champion and NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champion, is entered in his No. 83 Chevrolet.
Another regular competitor in the Late Model Stock Car Division at South Boston Speedway, Jonathan Cash of Roxboro, NC, has also entered the race with his No. 59 Strutmasters.Com Ford.
The 110-lap race for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division will be an exciting event as well. Adam Barker of Hurt, VA will put his streak of five straight wins on the line this weekend and will enter the race with a slim six-point lead over Ford driver Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, VA.
For more information about Saturday night’s South Boston 150 racing program or South Boston Speedway’s 50th anniversary season, visit the speedway’s website at www.southbostonspeedway.comm or telephone the track at 434-572-4947 or toll free at 1-877-440-1540.
