Barker Makes It Five In A Row At South Boston Speedway
May 27, 2007 - updated May 27th, 2007 9:48am
Web posted by

South Boston, VA --

Adam Barker continues to be virtually unstoppable at South Boston Speedway.

Barker, from Hurt, Va. outran 2005 South Boston Speedway and NASCAR Weekly Series national champion Peyton Sellers of Danville, Va. in a two-lap shootout following the race’s final caution period to win the Sam Ard 150 NASCAR Late Model Stock Car race here Saturday night at South Boston Speedway.

The win was Barker’s fifth win in a row here in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division. Barker’s win coupled with a third-place finish by Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. allowed Barker to extend his points lead over Ramsey in the track points standings to an unofficial six point margin.

Sellers, driving a Chevrolet painted to resemble the No. 00 Thomas Brothers County Hams Oldsmobiles formerly driven by Ard, the 1982 South Boston Speedway NASCAR Late Model Sportsman Division and two-time NASCAR Busch Series champion, attempted to make a run at Barker in the final two-lap shootout but fell about three car lengths shy.

Ramsey finished third in a Ford with David Triplett Jr, of Timberlake, N.C. edging Owen Miller of Emporia, Va. in the closing laps to take fourth place.

Greg Edwards of Poquoson, Va., Eddie Johnson of Midlothian, Va., Jonathan Bailey of Keysville, Va., rounded out the top eight finishers, all of whom finished on the lead lap. Scott Turlington of Richmond, Va. and John Brown rounded out the top ten finishers.

Barker averaged 47.608 mph in the race that was slowed by five caution periods.

Saturday night’s Sam Ard 150 was a tribute to and benefit event for Ard who is recovering from injuries sustained in a recent ATV accident and has been stricken with Alzheimer’s Disease. Ard’s wife has been victimized by an eye disorder and the family has been facing tough circumstances in recent years.

The speedway donated $2 from each adult general admission ticket sold for the race to the Ard family.

Ard’s son, Robert Ard, was in attendance at the event. Also attending the event was former South Boston Speedway and NASCAR Weekly Series national champion, Barry Beggarly of Pelham, N.C.

Willis Edges Pembleton In Limited Sportsman Division Race

Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va. scored his second win of the season here in the 50-lap Limited Sportsman Division race and did it the hard way.

Willis and Pembleton locked horns in a two-lap dash to the finish that followed the last of the race’s three caution periods and came off of the fourth turn on the final lap side-by-side.

The cars driven by the two drivers banged sides at least three times coming to the checkered flag with Willis getting the nose of his Pontiac about a foot in front of Pembleton’s Chevrolet as they hit the finish line.

Lee Pulliam of Semora, N.C., Charles Barnes of Chase City, Va. and division points leader and defending division champion Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va. rounded out the top five finishers.

Milam Wins Pure Stock Division Race

Jarrett Milam of Ringgold, Va. edged Joey Throckmorton of Scottsburg, Va. by a car length in a two-lap dash to the finish that followed the race’s final caution period to win the 30-lap race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

The win was Milam’s third in a row and came after Milam had dropped to third place early in the race and had rallied back to win in the closing laps.

Milam led only one lap of the race – that being the final circuit.

Defending division champion Chuck Watkins of Stem, N.C. finished third with William Ridgeway of Burlington, N.C. and Keith Langston of Pittsboro, N.C. rounded out the top five finishers.

Donnie Lacks Wins Southern Vintage Modified Race

Donnie Lacks of Lynchburg, Va. picked up his first win at South Boston Speedway in Saturday night’s 25-lap race for the Southern Vintage Modified Division.

His brother, Daryl Lacks of Lynchburg, finished second with Rodney Cook of Reidsville, N.C. finishing third, Randy Smith of Bassett, Va. finishing fourth and Ricky Seay rounding out the top five finishers.

Arthur Wins INEX Legends Cars Series Race

Brad Arthur of Roanoke Rapids, N.C. started on the pole and led all the way in winning the 25-lap INEX Legends Cars Series race.

Cameron Patrick of Williamsburg, Va. and Addison Rogers of Winchester, Va. finished second and third respectively.
Kevin Yeatts of Powhatan, Va. and Brad Hancock of Newport News, Va. rounded out the top five finishers.
