Barker Makes It Four Wins In a Row At SBS
May 13, 2007 - updated May 13th, 2007 10:38am
Web posted by Tim Chandler

South Boston, VA. --

Adam Barker’S Hot Streak At South Boston Speedway Continued Saturday Night.

Barker outran defending South Boston Speedway NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division champion Drew Herring of Benson, N.C. in a 21-lap sprint to the finish to win the 150-lap race for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division that headlined the Mom’s Night 150 racing program.

The win was Barker’s fourth win in a row and his fourth win in five races here this season. His margin of victory over Herring was approximately three car lengths.

“It’s unbelievable,” Barker said after the win that gave him the division points lead for the first time this season.

“I can’t believe this keeps happening. I’m just trying to ride the wave as it goes.”

On this night, Barker continued to stay on top of the wave, leading 146 laps of the 150-lap race and fending off several bids from the defending track champion, the most fierce of which came right after the race’s final restart on lap 129.

Herring made a big run at Barker on the restart, almost getting the nose of his Chevrolet up to the driver’s side door of Barker’s Chevrolet. But, as Barker had done all night, he pulled away again, leaving Herring to settle for second place.

As he exited his car after the race, Herring momentarily rested his upper body on the edge of his car’s roof

“I wasn’t ready for that,” a tired Herring said afterward.

‘We’ve been running twin 75’s at Kenly (Southern National Speedway in Kenly, N.C.) and it’s not as physically demanding as a 150-lap race. With the new tires here, the pace has picked up considerably.”

C.E. Falk, III of Virginia Beach, Va. finished third with Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. and Jonathan Bailey of Keysville, Va. rounding out the top five finishers.

Eddie Johnson of Midlothian, Va., Cliff Daniels of Smithfield, Va., Rodney Cook of Reidsville, N.C., Greg Edwards of Poquoson, Va. and Matt Lofton of Roxboro, N.C. rounded out the top ten.

Barker averaged 80.215 mph in the race that was slowed by two caution flags.

Anderson Tops Field In Limited Sportsman Division Race

Defending South Boston Speedway Limited Sportsman Division champion Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va. continued his domination of the division Saturday with a victory in the 50-lap race for that division.

The win was Anderson’s fifth in six races this season.

Anderson led all 50 laps with his only major challenge coming at the end when a late caution flag for a mishap created a two-lap sprint to the finish. In that final sprint, Anderson held off runner-up Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va. and third-place finisher, Brian Pembleton of Amelia, who prior to the caution, had raced a number of laps side-by side in a battle for second place.

Timmy Langford of Amelia, Va. and Wesley Falk of Virginia Beach, Va. rounded out the top five finishers.

Milam Sweeps Pure Stock Twinbill

Jarrett Milam of Ringgold, Va. had a big night, sweeping the pair of 30-lap races for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

In the first race, Milam took the lead from defending division champion Chuck Watkins of Stem, N.C., with 10 laps to go and held on to pick up his first win of the season.

William Ridgeway of Burlington, N.C., Quain Moore of Callands, Va., Mark Francisco of Halifax, Va. and Lee Anderson of Gladys, Va. rounded out the top five finishers.

There were three lead changes among four drivers in the race with Francisco leading a race-high 14 laps.

Milam started fourth in the nightcap, took the lead from Watkins with four laps to go and held off his challengers to win the second 30-lap race.

Watkins finished second with Francisco taking third, Ridgeway finishing fourth and Chris Seay of Ringgold, Va. rounding out the top five finishers.

There were three lead changes among three drivers in the race with Milam leading twice for a total of seven laps.

Gregory, Hale Winners In Legendary Flatheads Race

Sixty-three year-old Johnny Gregory of Rural Hall, N.C. won the 20-lap race for the competitors of the Legendary Ford Flatheads Racing Association. Bill Blair of Thomasville, N.C. was the runner-up.

Eighty-three-year-old Jack Hale of Rocky Mount finished fourth overall but was the winner in the Sportsman Division.

Sam Ard Night 150 Next Up At South Boston Speedway

South Boston Speedway will take next weekend off and will return with NASCAR racing action on Saturday night, May 26, with the Sam Ard Night 150.

Ard, a former NASCAR Late Model Sportsman track champion at South Boston Speedway will be on hand that night, a night on which South Boston Speedway will stage a benefit for the former champion who has been stricken with Alzheimers’ Disease.

Admission for that event will be $10 with $2 from each ticket sold going to benefit Ard and his family.

Former South Boston Speedway and NASCAR national champion, Barry Beggarly of Pelham, N.C., will also be in attendance that night.

The five-race card will be headlined by a 150-lap race for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division. A race for the Limited Sportsman Division, a race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division, as well as races for the Southern Vintage Modifieds and the Inex Legends Cars are also included on the card.

Gates will open at 5 p.m., qualifying starts at 5:15 p.m. and the first race will start at 7 p.m.
