South Boston Speedway Celebrates Mother’s Day Weekend With Mom’s Night 150

South Boston, VA. --

After a week off, South Boston Speedway will crank up its NASCAR racing action Saturday night, May 12, celebrating Mother’s Day Weekend with the running of the Mom’s Night 150.

Five action-packed races highlighted by a 150-lap race for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division will be featured on Saturday night’s racing card with the first race set to get the green flag at 7 p.m.

Saturday night’s action will also include a race for the Limited Sportsman Division, twin races for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division, and a race for the drivers in the Legendary Ford Flatheads Racing Association, which will be making its first visit of the season to the speedway.

As a special tribute, all moms will be admitted for $5 and the first 300 moms will receive a flower courtesy of South Boston Speedway.

In the Late Model Stock Car Division, the battle this season has been between winning and consistency. Thus far, it has been consistency that has reigned.

Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. continues to hold the lead in the division points standings. Ramsey, who has one win and four top-three finishes in the season’s first four races, holds a slim four-point lead over Adam Barker of Hurt, Va. who has won three of season’s first four races including the last three in a row.

Eddie Johnson of Midlothian, Va., who has finished in the top six in each of his four starts and has logged a pair of top-five finishes, is in third place in the points standings. Johnson trails Barker by 22 points and stands 26 points out of the lead.

David Triplett of Timberlake, N.C. is in fourth place in the points standings, 22 points behind Johnson and C.E. Falk of Virginia Beach, Va. rounds out the top five in the points chase. He trails Triplett by four points.

Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va., the defending Limited Sportsman Division champion, has pulled away to a sizable 32-point lead over Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va. in the Limited Sportsman Division points standings.

Anderson has won four of the five races run in the division this season while Willis has one win and has scored four consecutive top-five finishes.

Brian Pembleton of Amelia, Va., who has reeled off three straight second-place finishes, is in third place, two points down to Willis. Terri Marks of Capron, Va., who drives the Chevrolet maintained by students and instructors of the Halifax County Motorsports Academy, is in fourth place, two points down to Pembleton and only four points out of second place. Timmy Langford of Amelia, Va. rounds out the top five in the standings.

The action is going to be exciting as the Budweiser Pure Stock Division drivers take to the track Saturday night in twin races.

Chuck Watkins of Stem, N.C., last year’s division champion and the winner of three of the season’s first four races, leads the division points standings by a 22-point margin over William Ridgeway of Burlington, N.C.

Chris Seay of Ringgold, Va., is in third place, four points down to Ridgeway, with Mark Francisco of Halifax, Va., and Joey Throckmorton of Scottsburg, Va. rounding out the top five in the points standings.

South Boston Speedway’s grandstand gates will open Saturday at 5 p.m. Qualifying time trials start at 5:15 p.m. and the first race gets the green flag at 7 p.m.

Adult general admission is $8 until 6:30 p.m. and $10 after that. Youths ages 10-15 are admitted for $5. Kids ages 9 & under are admitted free with a paid adult.

For more information about the Mom’s Night 150 racing program or South Boston Speedway’s 50th anniversary season, visit the speedway’s website at www.southbostonspeedway.com or phone the track at 434-572-4947 or toll free at 1-877-440-1540.
