Southern National Speedway has been purchased by Kirk Leone of Raleigh, NC.
A seasoned short track racer himself, Leone announces this acquisition just in time for the race season’s grand finale, The Thanksgiving Classic.
This kind of venture is not new to Kirk. As a successful land developer and home builder he is accustomed to challenges and is looking forward to this one as well. He intends to take Southern National to the next level by putting the right people and resources in place to provide a facility that makes SNS the choice track for all short track racing. His goal is to make a real difference in the racing community by providing a “racer’s race track,” where all racers are treated fairly, respectfully, and feel they are a viable part of the tracks operation and success.
Kirk wants his fans to know he is not hanging up his racing helmet. He plans to run the full Hooter’s schedule again in 2006, as well as late model stock and late model sportsman events as scheduling permits.
Kirk’s first event as sole proprietor and owner of Southern National will be the R. Kirk Leone Builder’s Thanksgiving Classic 620 on November 26 and 27. Divisions running in this 2-day event are Thunder Cars (35 laps); 4 Cylinders (50 laps); Pro Trucks (50 laps); Street Stock (60 laps); Super Stock (75 laps); Late Model Stock (200 laps); and Late Model Sportsman (150 laps). Rules for the event will remain as stated on Southern National Speedway’s website, www.southernnational.net.
Announcements for the 2006 season will be forthcoming as plans are developed.
