Kenny Adams Dominates In Ascs 360 Action And Mann Takes Rd 1 Of Victory Lap Late Model $25,000 Challenge

Jamaica, VA --

It was a little déjà vu as Kenny Adams of Malabar, FL blistered the field to pick up his second win at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway in 360 sprint car competition. And just like his previous win the only thing to slow Adams was lapped traffic.

“Traffic was tough, but what a race track, these race fans are very lucky to have a place like this to see racing every week and I’m real happy to get my first ASCS win of the season,” commented Kenny Adams in victory lane.

Adams took control of the race from the drop of the green flag with Justin Barger in close pursuit. By lap 10 the Adams and Barger where working lapped traffic. Adams went outside, Barger chose inside and barely missed taking the lead at the line by inches.

Adams then got back up on the wheel and pulled away from the rest of the field to easily pick up the victory. Rounding out the top five were Justin Barger, Johnny Bridges, Bryan Howland and T.J. Winegardner.

Austin Hubbard of Seaford, DE set the tone for Round one of the Victory Lap Late Model $25,000 Challenge presented by BB&T when he turned in a blistering lap of 18.557 seconds to break his own track record for the division. Hubbard then inverted the top eight with the pill draw putting Donnie Marshall Jr. and Roland Mann on the front row and leading the field to green.

Mann used the outside to his advantage and took the lead out of turn 2 to go on to lead lap 1. On Lap 5 Mann and Walker Arthur began to work lapped traffic. On lap 6 Mann and Arthur got together as they worked traffic in turn 1. On Lap 8 Austin Hubbard took second from Arthur in turn 2 with a perfect slide job. On lap 12 Hubbard jumped the cushion in turn 2 giving second back to Arthur.

With the laps winding down Arthur began his assault on Mann. But with every move that Arthur made Mann had an answer. Mann would motor on to hold on for the big round one win. With the victory Mann is the only driver with a chance at the $25,000 bonus.

“I had to get up on top of the wheel there with Walker Arthur working me hard there at the end,” commented Roland Mann in victory lane.

Rounding out the top five were Walker Arthur, Austin Hubbard, Brian Staton and 25th place starting Les Hare. Wayne Carroll picked up the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Rookie of the Race Award with his tenth place finish.

In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature Brent Bordeaux of Fredericksburg, VA had to try several times to get the lead and on lap 4 made a strong move out of turn 2 to gain control of the event; that left Rich Marks, Brian Maxey and Bret Hamilton to battle for second. Hamilton would take second from Marks on lap 17 and set out to catch Bordeaux. Over the next six laps Hamilton tried to get by Bordeaux but couldn’t take grab the lead. Bordeaux would hold on to pick up his first victory of 2007.

Rounding out the top five were Bret Hamilton, Tommy Shiflet, Brian Maxey and Rich Marks. Brian Maxey picked up the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Rookie of the Race Award with his fourth place finish.

In the Charger 25 lap feature ‘Bullet” Bob Terry Of Fredericksburg, VA took control of the race on lap 8 when he trapped leader James Givens behind lapped traffic also allowing Kyle Nelson to take scond. As Terry pulled away from the field the race was for third between Givens and John Kirby with Givens barely holding off Kirby for third. Terry cruised to his second win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Kyle Nelson, James Givens, John Kirby and Chris Tatum. Ryan Toole picked up the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Rookie of the Race Award with his ninth place finish.

In the All American 15 lap feature Kevin Fletcher of Saluda, VA used a three wide pass on lap 2 to take the lead from Andrew Miller and Dustin Owens. Stephen Childress, who set a new track record earlier in the night, worked his way form eighth to put some pressure on Fletcher in the closing laps but couldn’t keep Fletcher from picking up his career first victory. Rounding out the top five were Childress, Dustin Owens, Marty Coltrain and Luke Danison.
