NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at Langley Speedway (April 20)
Langley Speedway is pleased to announce that veteran track announcer Neal Steele will be manning the microphone for its 2007 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series campaign.
Always quick with a colorful quip, Steele has been a fixture on the local racing scene for over 20 years. He handled the announcing duties at Langley in the mid-’80s, then moved on to assignments at Dixieland Speedway, near Elizabeth City, N.C., Southampton Speedway (and its paved incarnation, Southampton Motor Speedway) in Capron, Va., and, most recently, Virginia Motor Speedway in Saluda, Va.
In 2003, the final season of his 12-year tenure at Southampton, Steele was named “America’s Favorite NASCAR Short Track Announcer,” topping a nationwide online poll, conducted by National Short Track Magazine.
In addition to his at-the-track activities, Steele has enjoyed a long involvement with youth sports in the area, serving, at different times, as a coach and as an official/umpire.
He and his wife, June, are residents of Portsmouth, Va.
