100-lap Late Model feature headlines Toyota Night program Thursday, April 19, 2007

Hampton, VA --

NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at Langley Speedway

(April 19) — A 100-lap feature for the Crossroads Fuel Service Late Models tops the bill this Saturday, April 21, as Langley Speedway continues its 2007 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series campaign with Toyota Night at the Races.
In addition to the big Late Model race, Saturday’s lineup includes: Super 8 Motels/Dunkum’s Machine Shop Grand Stocks (40 laps); E-Z Auto UCARs (25 laps); and, Wolf Contracting Wolf Trucks (25 laps, depending on the number of competitors). The Mid-Atlantic Champ Kart Association (MACKA), sponsored by A/C Mechanical Services and Steadfast Security & Investigations, will also be on hand for a 20-lapper, the first of four Langley appearances for the group in ‘07.
Gates open at 1 p.m., while afternoon practice starts at 2:30. A drivers meeting begins at 4:15 and time trials get under way at 4:30. The pre-race program, highlighted by a demonstration of high-flying R/C vehicles from Hobbytown USA, starts at 6:30 and the evening’s first feature contest gets the green flag at 7.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. “Little Race Fans” (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Military members (active-duty or retired, with ID) and senior citizens (60+, with ID) receive a $2 discount off the regular adult ticket price. “Family Packs,” which include two adult and two children’s tickets, are $25 — a savings of $5.

Fans attending this Saturday night’s event at Langley Speedway are encouraged to don Hokie colors and help to create a “Sea of Orange and Maroon” — a gesture of sympathy and support in the wake of Monday morning’s unthinkable tragedy on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg.
• • •
The Speedway will hold its regular, weekly “test and tune” session this evening. Gates open at 5 p.m. and practice begins at 6. A lighting test is slated, so the session may run a bit later than usual.
Pit admission is $10 with a valid NASCAR, INEX, HRKC or Langley Speedway license and $20 without a current competition license. With Langley races coming up over the next two weekends, MACKA and Pro 6 Series teams are also eligible to take part in Thursday’s practice. There is no charge for admission to the grandstands.
Summaries of Thursday evening practice sessions (as well as other events) are available on the track’s Web site, www.langley-speedway.com. In the menu on the homepage, click on “Results,” then follow the appropriate links. Practice results are posted shortly after the end of each week’s session.

Saturday’s Late Model race will mark the first of five 100-lap events on the division’s 2007 schedule. Six 100-lappers were held in ‘06 with Casey Wyatt and Mark Wertz picking up two victories apiece. Danny and Greg Edwards were the winners in the other two events.
• • •
Five track qualifying records were broken or established in time trials for last Saturday’s season-opening program.
Greg Edwards and Tommy Sweeney bettered their own marks in the Late Model and Super Street classes, respectively. Joe Scarbrough broke Jason Palmore’s year-old Modified record and Jeff Sampson smashed Michael Leech’s Wolf Truck standard, which was set last September.
Since last weekend’s race heralded the debut of the Kim Jusino, Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts as a full-fledged member of Langley’s Saturday night lineup, pole winner Bobby Peach was credited with establishing the new record for the division.
Grand Stock and UCAR drivers will get their first crack at joining in on the record-setting bonanza this Saturday.

NASCAR action continues at Langley Speedway on Saturday, April 28, when the track plays host to Hampton Chevrolet Night at the Races. The lineup includes: Late Models, Med Express Super Streets, Cook’s Moving Service Super Trucks in their first race of the new season, B&C Seafood Modifieds, HRKC Champ Karts and the Pro 6 Series, making the first of five scheduled stops at Langley.

A longtime member of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, Langley Speedway is a .395-mile, slightly-banked oval. The track is located at 11 Dale Lemonds Dr., off North Armistead Ave., in Hampton, Va.
