Sponsors, Drivers Lining up to be a Part of South Boston Speedway’s 50th Anniversary Season

South Boston, Va --

The 50th anniversary season at legendary South Boston Speedway is about to get underway and the list of new sponsors and competitors continue to grow.

Officials at America’s Hometown Track announced this week that Italian Delight has signed on to join the growing list of race sponsors for 2007. The sponsorship between the speedway and Italian Delight, which is located in South Boston, is the first between the two businesses.

“I sponsor these races so I can leave my business and go watch races,” Italian Delight’s Vinny Sarnataro said. “I think I will have fun there. I am excited about this. I am looking forward to this.”

South Boston Speedway General Manager Cathy Rice is also excited to have Italian Delight onboard at America’s Hometown Track.

“We are very pleased to have reached a sponsorship agreement with Italian Delight,” Rice said. “We hope this will lead to a long partnership. It is always good to have local businesses be a part of the excitement at South Boston Speedway.”

In addition to new sponsorships coming onboard at South Boston Speedway, a host of drivers are also looking forward to competing on the four-tenths mile asphalt oval this season.

Matt Lofton of Timberlake, N.C. and Justin Johnson of Roxboro, N.C. both said recently that they are excited about competing in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division this season under the sponsorship of Strutmasters.com.

For Lofton, the upcoming season will be his first in Late Model Stock Car Division competition. In 2006, Lofton competed in the Limited Sportsman Division at South Boston Speedway and also won a Limited Sportsman track title at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, N.C.

“I am going to run at several different tracks this year,” Lofton said. “I know that I need to get some experience in Late Model racing. I am especially looking forward to competing at South Boston Speedway with all the talented drivers they always have there. There is no better competition around than what you can find at that track.”

Johnson, who has collected a victory in Late Model Stock Car racing at South Boston Speedway, is also ready to hit the four-tenths mile asphalt oval for action in 2007.

“It should be a great year at South Boston,” Johnson said. “The best of the best is always there and if you can win at that track, you can win anywhere. I am looking forward to the challenge.”

South Boston Speedway’s 50th anniversary season will get underway on Saturday, March 24. Twenty-one events are on the schedule for the upcoming season at South Boston Speedway.

In addition to the track’s regular divisions of racing, several special events are also slated including a pair of visits from the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series, the annual Bailey’s 200 NASCAR Whelen Weekly Series Late Model Stock Car event to celebrate Independence Day and the season-ending SoBo 300 Late Model Stock Car event.

The start of the season may be fast approaching, however, it is still not too late to purchase season tickets for the upcoming season. Race fans can purchase season tickets, good for all events in 2007, for $175. A season ticket pass for youth, ages 10-15, is available for the 2007 season at a cost of $99.

For more information visit the track's web site or phone the track at (434) 572-4947 or toll free at 1-877-440-1540.
