Update: Girl Scout Night set for Sept. 30 Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006

Hampton, VA --

NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series at Langley Speedway

(Sept. 28) — Horsepower meets “Girl Power” this Saturday, Sept. 30, when Langley Speedway plays host to Girl Scout Night, the next-to-last event of the track’s 2006 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series points season. Over 1,100 Girl Scouts, plus their leaders and family members, are expected to be on hand for Saturday’s races.
The six-race feature lineup includes: Crossroads Fuel Service/Sunoco Dealers Late Models (100 laps); Super 8 Motels/Dunkum’s Machine Shop Grand Stocks (40 laps); Verizon Super Trucks (25 laps); E-Z Auto Rental UCARs (25 laps); BBFlabradors.com Wolf Trucks (20 laps); and, HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts (20 laps).
Gates open at 12 noon and practice starts at 1:30 p.m. The drivers meeting is scheduled for 4, followed by time trials at 4:15. Pre-race festivities begin at 6:40 and the green flag falls on the first feature event at 7.
Tickets are $10 for adults ($8 for active-duty or retired military members with ID and for senior citizens, 60+) and $5 for children, 6-12. “Little Race Fans” (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Also, military members in uniform are admitted free. “Family Packs,” which include two adult and two children’s tickets, are $25 — a savings of $5. Skybox seats are $30 each. There is no charge for parking.

Langley Speedway’s weekly “test and tune” session is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 21. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and practice runs until dark. Pit admission is $10 with a valid NASCAR, INEX or Langley Speedway license and $20 without a current competition license. There is no charge to watch practice rounds from the grandstands.
Summaries of Thursday evening practice sessions will no longer be posted on the track’s Web site, www.langley-speedway.com. Statistical info from Saturday evening races, however, is available. In the menu on the homepage, click on “Results,” then follow the appropriate links.

Saturday’s 100-lap Late Model feature will be the last of six 100-lappers on the division’s ‘06 schedule. Casey Wyatt and Mark Wertz split the first four extended events, posting two victories apiece. Greg Edwards broke up the party by bagging a win on Aug. 19.
• • •
In the Late Model standings, Greg Edwards holds a 10-point lead over Danny Edwards, 874-864. Mark Wertz ranks third with 844, followed by Casey Wyatt with 822.
Before the final standings are calculated, however, each Late Model driver’s two-worst finishes (or missed races) will be thrown out.
In the “adjusted” standings, Greg Edwards is 14 points ahead of Wertz, 806-792, while Danny Edwards and Casey Wyatt are deadlocked at 784.
Greg Edwards can nail down the championship with fourth-place runs in the season’s final two races. In 19 events this season, he has posted 17 top-four finishes.
• • •
With his win in last week’s Grand Stock feature, Ricky Derrick trimmed two points from Dean Shiflett’s lead in the standings and now trails by six, 498-492. Shiflett, though, remains on track for his second straight division crown. He can sew up the title by finishing second in the last two races — a feat he has accomplished in seven of 11 races in 2006. Should the issue arise, the tiebreaker currently favors Derrick, who holds a 6-5 edge in race wins.
Behind Shiflett and Derrick in the standings, Danny Harrell and Jason Leftwich are tied for third place with 402 points. George VanGuilder and Gene Smith are knotted at 376 in their tussle for fifth place, followed closely by Brandon Hinson with 370.
• • •
Carl Livingston endured his worst outing of the season in the Sept. 16 Super Truck race, retiring early and finishing seventh. Still, though, he only surrendered four points from his commanding lead in the division standings and heads into Saturday’s event with a 30-point advantage over Justin Ballo, 524-494. Eighth-place finishes in the final two races would be enough to give Livingston the title.
Ballo may face a challenge for second place in the rankings, however, as Tommy Nixon is only 12 points behind him, in third, and ‘05 champ Hugo Belfiore is just four points behind Nixon.
• • •
Randy Prillaman enjoys a 56-point lead in the UCAR standings and can seal up the championship by finishing 15th or better in the last two races. He’ll be looking for his third straight win (and ninth overall) in Saturday’s 25-lapper.
While Prillaman seems to have things well in hand atop the points rundown, second place is still very much up in the air. Kevin Alves currently holds the position, but he’s only two points ahead of third-place Robbie Davis, 560-558.
• • •
Idle since Aug. 26, the Wolf Truckers will swing back into action with Saturday’s 20-lapper and Jill Brinson will try to move another step closer to the championship in the fledgling division.
While her unbeaten streak was snapped at six in the Aug. 26 race, she still owns a 38-point lead over Brad Perron in the standings, 346-308. She will secure the title with 10th-place finishes in the season’s last two races. Since the division’s largest starting field to date has been eight trucks, it’s possible that Brinson could win the title by simply starting the final pair of events.
• • •
Langley Speedway will wrap up its 2006 points season on Saturday, Oct. 7, with a mammoth, eight-race program featuring all of the track’s regular divisions. The evening’s lineup includes: Late Models, Grand Stocks, NTELOS Wireless Super Streets, Super Trucks, UCARs, B&C Seafood Modifieds, Wolf Trucks and Cook’s Moving Service INEX Legends.
The Oct. 7 INEX Legends race will be a non-points race. They completed their title chase on Sept. 23.
• • •
A full day of UCAR excitement is slated for Saturday, Oct. 14, when Langley Speedway hosts the Inaugural RaceCom of Virginia UCAR Nationals.
Gates will open at 10 a.m. and inspections will take place from 10 to 12 noon. Cars will hit the track for a couple practice rounds early in the afternoon. Time trials, to determine positions 1-20, will begin at 4:15 p.m. Starting at 5:30, drivers who didn’t make it into the feature lineup via time trials will face off in a pair of 20-lap heat races to fill positions 21-30. The 50-lap feature event, paying $1,000 to the winner, will get under way at 7. Grandstand admission is just $5.
For Langley newcomers (and Langley regulars who want a little extra practice time), an all-day test-and-tune session will be held on Friday, Oct. 13. The session will run from 9 a.m. ‘til 5 p.m. Pit admission for licensed competitors is $10. There is no charge to watch the practice runs from the grandstand.
Complete rules and registration information for the event may be obtained by calling the Speedway office at (757) 865-RACE or visiting the track’s Web site, www.langley-speedway.com.
For out-of-town UCAR teams, the track has arranged a special $35/night room rate at Super 8, only minutes away from the Speedway. For more information, call Robert Ellis at (757) 262-1011 or contact him via e-mail at <vafatboy@aol.com>.
• • •
Langley Speedway will hold its annual awards banquet on Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Hellenic Community Center in Newport News, Va. Tickets are $35 each. Contact Lisa Kincaid in the Speedway sales office to purchase tickets and to make seating arrangements.
• • •
A total of $5,000 in purse money has been posted for Langley Speedway’s “Night of Destruction” on Saturday, Nov. 4. Gates open at 10 a.m. and competition gets under way at 1 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults ($8 for active-duty or retired military members with ID and for senior citizens, 60+) and $5 for children, 6-12. Kids under 6 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
Among other things, the event will feature a “Triple Demolition Derby” (one for domestic cars, one for imports and one powder puff for females only), an Enduro race ($1,000 to win), an appliance race, a chain race, a bag race and tug-of-war and burnout contests.
For rules and registration info, call the Speedway at (757) 865-RACE or surf over to the track’s Web site, www.langley-speedway.com.
