Hoosier RoC Tires To Roll the Modifieds At “Mason-Dixon Meltdown”

Concord, NC --

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hoosier Tire South Providing RoC Modified-Style Tires for Inaugural Event

(September 26, 2006) – As the leaves begin to change color, the crisp autumn air begins to sweep through the East Coast and the regular-season championships for racing divisions everywhere are being decided, the excitement for the “Mason-Dixon Meltdown” is growing. The best of the best from the Tour-Type Modifieds, Super Late Models, Legends Cars and the Pro Challenge series will head to South Boston Speedway November 24th and 25th for the inaugural “Mason-Dixon Meltdown,” one of the most anticipated events of the year for competitors and fans alike.

But without tires, the fans that will travel from hundreds of miles to see the stars of the Modifieds and Super Late Models on the racetrack would be in for a rather bland show, to say the least. The PASS South Super Late Models will be racing on their usual American Racer tires, as they have for the entire season in the series’ debut year. But now, the Modified competitors will know what rubber they’ll be pounding the pavement with this Thanksgiving weekend.

“Mason-Dixon Meltdown” co-promoter and owner of PASS South Tom Mayberry announced today that the Hoosier RoC Modified tires provided by Hoosier Tire South of Winston-Salem, NC will be the official tires used on the Tour-Type Modifieds at the “Mason-Dixon Meltdown.” For 250 grueling laps around South Boston Speedway, the Hoosier RoC tires will be shaking the ground beneath the 600-horsepower rocket ships that are the Tour-Type Modifieds.

“We are extremely excited to have a great tire for the ‘Mason-Dixon Meltdown.’ Many of the competitors we spoke with say this will be an extremely solid and competitive tire for the Modifieds,” said Mayberry. “We have an excellent relationship with Northern Race Tire and American Racer Tires for our Super Late Models, but because American Racer does not offer a Tour-Type Modified tire, we wanted a tire that has a proven track record and will allow the drivers to put on a great show for the fans. We have found that in the RoC Tires from Hoosier Tire South.

“Hoosier Tires have been a staple of Modified racing throughout the Northeast, and their RoC tire has allowed the RoC Series to grow into one of the best short track series in the country. We are confident that drivers and fans alike will be pleased with the kind of show that the tires will allow for at South Boston.”

On the racetrack is where the tire will get its true test, but one driver that has raced on, and won with, just about every kind of tire that Modifieds can run on in the Northeast, is excited about being able to run the RoC tires at South Boston in the “Mason-Dixon Meltdown.”

“It’s a real good tire,” said Eric Beers, who is a proven winner in the RoC Modified series as well as in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. “The (compound) 20’s and 30’s that we run in the RoC series are a lot more consistent than the Tour tire. I believe the tire will be a real good fit for that racetrack, too. We run it anywhere from a quarter-mile at Mahoning Valley Speedway all the way to the fast tracks like Oswego and Thompson.

“Just a couple weeks ago, I went 144 laps before I pitted at Oswego and I only dropped about a tenth and a half, so I think that this a good choice for this race. If you’ve got your chassis set up right and you don’t abuse the tires, the tires will last until half-way without a problem.”

The Tour-Type Modified portion of the “Mason-Dixon Meltdown” features a 250-lap main event on Sunday, November 25th. The PASS South Super Late Models also have a 250-lap event that day and both premier divisions will be racing for a $12,500 paycheck for the winner, plus lap money and other bonuses to be announced soon. Also competing during the “Mason-Dixon Meltdown” weekend are the Legends Cars and the Pro Challenge Series.
