Hossfeld Becomes First Modified Entry for “Mason-Dixon Meltdown”
Sep 22, 2006 - updated Sep 22nd, 2006 8:19am

Concord, NC --

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

#79 Hillbilly Racing Team Looks Forward to Racing near Home at South Boston.

The first official entry for Modified portion of the November 24th-25th Mason-Dixon Meltdown at South Boston Speedway (VA) has been received and it is from a team that fits the bill for the big-money show. The southern-based Hillbilly Racing team has entered the event with their #79 car which is driven by New York native and NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour star Chuck Hossfeld. Being that parts of each team are from either side of the Mason-Dixon Line, it’s ironic that the team is the first to register for the 250-lap event on Thanksgiving weekend.

Considering how much that Hossfeld and his team, owned by Roger and Sandra Hill, enjoy racing as much as possible, their haste for entering the Mason-Dixon Meltdown is no surprise at all.

“It’s cool to be hooked up with a race team that loves to race as much as I do – especially with all of the money, effort and sacrifices that it takes to go racing today,” said Hossfeld. “They’re excited. This race is in their own area. They are in Westfield, North Carolina, which is right over the Virginia border.”

The Hillbilly team competes regularly on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and occasionally on the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. They are no stranger to open shows either.

“I’m a huge supporter of the Whelen Modified Tour, and so is our team, but we want to race. We have 15-races on our schedule and our goal is to race about 30 races. We’ll go down South to the Southern Modified races. If there were no conflicts, we might run both tours even. Sometimes, we venture other places and we’re excited about this race.

“It’s pays $12,500 to win and that puts things pointed in the right direction for Modified racing. You’ve got the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, which is the most competitive racing out there, but you also have Southern Modifieds, RoC Modifieds, the True Value Tour and local tracks all over the place. So when you have a big purse, there is no telling how many Modifieds that will show up. It’s pretty neat to get those teams competing against each other. That’s exciting for me.”

The Mason-Dixon Meltdown will feature twin 250-lap events for Pro All Star Series Super Late Models and Tour-type Modifieds, so there will be plenty of race fans who will get the opportunity to be exposed to new types of racing. Hossfeld knows that can only help short track racing as a whole.

“I think that if you go and watch a Modified race, 95% of the time you will see a great race. As far as racing goes, we have some of the best racing on earth. When you can get new fans in the stands to watch that show, if they like racing at all they will appreciate the cars and the talent that’s driving them. Having the Super Late Models there will help the Modifieds and I think that one hand will wash the other and some Modified fans will enjoy the Super Late Models.”

More details on the entire event will be coming shortly. The schedule of events for the entire weekend is still being finalized, but calls for practice and qualifying on Friday, November 24th, with the 250-lap events for each division on Saturday, November 25th. The Pro Challenge Series will also compete with the Super Late Models and Modifieds on Saturday, while the INEX Legends Cars will showcase their show on Friday night.
