One Night: Two Poles and One Win for Casey Wyatt
Sep 18, 2006 - updated Sep 18th, 2006 8:48pm
Web posted by Chrissy Wyatt-Ward

Hampton Virginia --

For Immediate Release

Crossroads Fuel Service Late Models 75 Langley Speedway, Hampton Virginia- With 2 weeks off Casey Wyatt was ready to get back behind the wheel and it showed. Casey not only ran his Late Model, but was also asked to drive the Sr. Pro Winged Champ Kart of Bill Mullis.

Champ Kart Release:

During qualifying Casey set the fastest time of 23.365 in the Champ Kart division. Starting on the pole, Casey’s objective was to drop back and help teammate and points leader, Ashley Mullis work her way to the front. On lap 4 of the 20-lap event Casey dropped in behind Ashley and they began their race to the front.

Everything was working as planned until lap 14. Ashley and the 5th place kart of Jeffrey Johnson made contact while exiting turn 2 and sent Mullis slamming into the outside wall. Ashley was helped from her kart and taken to the hospital for further observation. When the race resumed, Casey and teammate David Phelps worked their way to the outside and moved to the front of the pack. Running side by side with the leader the final 4 laps, Wyatt came up one kart length short taking 2nd. In the post race interview, Wyatt expressed his concern for Ashley and hoped that she would be alright. He thanked Bill for putting him in top-notch equipment and looks forward to the next race.

Before the race began, it was announced that the top 5 finishers would have their motors completely torn apart and inspected. Cory Millard who finished first was DQ’ed and Casey was moved to first for the win. Other than being sore, Ashley Mullis is doing well and is looking forward to the next race.

Late Model Release:

When it was time to qualify the Late Models, Wyatt was unsure of what he was going to have. He and crew chief Sammy Gaita tried a different set up to improve the cars qualifying efforts. Taking the pole with a time of 16.543 proved they had hit on a good combination. After spinning the wheel of doom, Wyatt was inverted to 5th for the start of the 75-lap event.

With rain showers on and off all night, it would be after midnight before the Late Models hit the grid. On the first lap there was a wreck going into turn one, damaging 5 cars and eliminating 2 of them. After the second start Wyatt fell into 5th place pressuring point’s leader Mark Wertz. On lap 13 Wyatt moved to the inside of Wertz and set his sights on the leaders. Lap 30 brought the pass of Jeff Shifflet for third place. Shortly after completing the pass for third Casey came on the radio and told his crew that the car had picked up a miss and felt like it was on 7 cylinders. Car owner Wayne Wyatt explained that he had heard it for the last 10 or so laps and to keep an eye on the gauges. The caution flew again on lap 56 and closed the field up. On the restart Wyatt started his move on 2nd place Danny Edwards. Wyatt moved his seven cylinders to the inside of Edwards coming off of turn 4 on lap 57. As they ran door to door on the front stretch the two cars would touch which allowed Wyatt to pull ahead. Edwards apparently upset over the pass planted his nose square in the center of Wyatt’s bumper going into turn 3. Wyatt’s car slid up the track, which resulted in him getting sideways in front of the field. After straightening out his car Wyatt settled into 3rd, but with the miss getting worse didn’t have enough to catch Edwards.

At the post race interview Wyatt explained that his car had picked up a miss and he was disappointed because the car was handling perfect. Wyatt also expressed his surprise at how Danny Edwards had driven him. Wyatt stated, “Danny is a very respected driver and usually doesn’t drive like that.” Wyatt and Team 29 look forward to next weeks race. Hoping to get win number 7 and move in closer on the point’s battle. Come on out and support Casey and Team 29 as they vie for their 7th win of the season. Gates open at 4pm and pre-race activities begin at 630pm.

Casey and Team 29 would like to thank their sponsors: Wyatt Homes Inc., Rica-Sha Hair and Tanning, George Brooks Law Offices, Bostic Electric, CBX Custom Modulars and their fans for their continued support. Don’t forget to visit our NEW website at www.caseywyattracing.com.
