Drive For Diversity Drivers Enjoy Success This Season
Aug 29, 2006 - updated Aug 29th, 2006 11:54pm
Web posted by Jarian Kerekes

Charlotte, N.C. --

For Immediate Release:(Aug. 29, 2006)

The Drive for Diversity program had only one driver in action on Saturday night due to most short-track operators scheduling off-weekends to not conflict with the Nextel Cup Series action from Bristol, TN.

Reviewing last weekend’s highlights, Peter Hernandez, 37, from Sacramento, Calif., finished in 11th place on Aug. 19 when he drove the No. 20 Sony/Jackson Hewitt Chevrolet at Stockton 99 Speedway in his final D4D race of the season. In 18 races this season, Hernandez has collected nine top-five finishes and two wins. His final point’s standings will be determined in the coming weeks.

“I am happy with the outcome of this season,” Hernandez says. “My team really rallied together each week and we continued to get better. The hard work paid off and when we won twice, it was even sweeter.”

“I know if I keep my heart and mind into racing, I can achieve whatever I want to do,” Hernandez says. “This season is a great example of that.”

The lone D4D driver in action on Saturday night was Marc Davis. Driving the No. 92 Joe Gibbs Racing entry, Davis made his debut at Greenville Pickens Raceway where he finished in third place.

Jesus Hernandez, Peter Hernandez and Brianne Cronrath have completed their 2006 Drive for Diversity season’s respectively. Each will now turn their attention to the 2007 Drive for Diversity Combine scheduled for the fall of 2006.

The following drivers will resume action September 2.

Allison Duncan: Motor Mile Speedway Mike Gallegos: Caraway Speedway Jessica Helberg: Hickory Speedway Chris Bristol: Hickory Speedway

Drive for Diversity also has crew members on teams in the NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Calvin Gravely was instrumental in helping the No. 77 Orleans Racing Dodge to a 17th place finish at Bristol Motor Speedway on Wednesday night. Nicole Addison and Corey Hunter pitted the No. 23 NBS entry for PPC Racing and assisted in a 29th place finish.

Drive for Diversity®

Drive for Diversity® is an ethnic and gender minority driver and crew member development program created and managed by Access Marketing & Communications, a Charlotte-based multicultural marketing firm founded in 2003 by The Radiate Group and Calhoun Enterprises. In 2006, the program will support eight drivers in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series and 12 crew members in the NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Drive for Diversity® is an initial step in a long-term solution to diversify NASCAR’s participant and audience base. For more information, please visit www.drivefordiversity.com.
